Microsoft XNA is their SDK for developing XBOX and PC games using the same API set.

Microsft XNA isn't a console, it isn't really more interesting for game developers (although that is what they're selling it as).

Put simply XNA replaced every single Microsoft Library with a single 60MB Runtime + a brand new API which replaces all the current APIs.
For developers of Games, Applications and such this is definately a breakthrough for Microsoft.

It's called XNA because it's based on DirectX 9 Architecture of Independant but Interactable Libraries.
(a play on DNA as it basically is the Nucleus of everything to follow from Microsoft SDK and Library wise)

Alienware DHS is just a Digital Home System; Basically a PC in a Desktop Box with a DVD Drive and Windows XP Media Center. Not aimed at games... Possible with the Radeon 9200/9600/9800 being the base cards in it, but not likely.

You want a real game playing machine:
http://www.alienware.com/alx_pages/main_alx.aspx

one of the most technically powerful machines you can buy publically... In August Alienware will be releasing the a second option to buy Geforce 6-Series (6800 Extreme) editing instead.
Both run on PCI-X

You can currently play DarkBASIC Professional games on an X-Box with the sourceforge XBE->EXE converter.
It doesn't work perfectly but thanks to the format outline provided by the CXBX project it means people who don't wanna install Windows XP or Linux onto the machine can play games on it created for the PC.

However it isn't exactly fool-proof.
Comming out over the next year are the Phantom and Apex consoles which are literally PCs in a box using Windows Embedded; setup for games. Apex should run games without any altering, the Phantom does too but you need the company who runs the online server to upload your game else it can't be accessed...

To be frank as neither actually have a controller; both use keyboard+mouse input they're just cheap computers.
NVIDIA has it's 'Media Center' also due out next year ... not sure what the specs are or even what it's aimed at. Chances are that'll add to the small list of 'entertainment center consoles' rather than 'games consoles'

Err...it's not that simple...

My friend had a mod-chip in his XBox. Was actually running SNES games via an emulator he had for it. We also set up a network with it -- could see files on his XBox. Tried transferring a simple C++ game with it and couldn't get it work (yes, was converted to XBE). Probably more to it than just conversion...

The problem is though although it is possible, its not really that exciting since you can't sell them or anything (or maybe its just me being boring ).
