Oh boy, my computer was a mess, and now it's even more of a mess. I have to reload everything... gah! I lost DarkBasic Pro too... I think thats gonna be the first thing I reload.

Actually, I don't think I need to reload them, because Windows is on my C drive, and a lot of my games and apps are on my F drive... can't I just relink them to Windows?

Interesting one this - some people say "load software" or "load windows"? Is it the correct way?

What is the definitive term; I tend to use "install" or "reinstall".

Do we have a terminology guru who can tell us the answers?

lol dunno if your taking the piss or not, think you are but i'm bored atm.

Install = To integrate something previously unavailable for future use.
Uninstall = To deintegrate/remove something making it unavailable for future use.
Load = To access something previously available.
Reload = To reaccess something you have unloaded or to create a second instance of.
Unload = To remove access from something current available.

Terminology is pretty clear to what should be the title.

If your talking XP - search for the Sasser virus fix - AND - the Microsoft patch.

Sasser takes over LSASS.EXE and windows needs this file - so I'm thinking that your problems are related to the problems I've had with Sasser - killing the virus can kill XP. I've had so many problems that it's unbelievable with that virus, surely the new wave of bastard virus.

Anyone know how to get rid of a 0 byte directory thats appear in my Start Menu -> Programs list ?

A 5 pass CHKDSK hasn't done anything, and I cant delete it as Windows says it cant read from the media (ie the hard drive). At the moment, I think that part of the hard drive is dodgy (going to try a diagnostic tool later on).

At the moment I'm not too worried, as I'll probably get a new hard drive when the 'gold' version of SP2 comes out...

In the old days I'd use a disk sector editor (just an ascii/hex editor for physical data) to manually repair the fat entry, or just wipe it out - god knows what you'd do with Windows though, maybe something that can give that level of access could do the trick.

Yes, the NTFS layout doesn't allow easy hard disk editing unfortunately.

Bah! - I hate NTFS, wtf was wrong with Fat32 anyway! - Damn M$!. Basically I ain't interested in any OS that won't let you easily access your files from a boot disk.

One thing I did forget to mention was that NTFS doesn't like trailing spaces, which what this directory appears to have...

I'm going to have to contact Microsoft with this one or see if the command line will delete the directory.
