Ok, I know NOTHING(in the most extreme sense of the word) about multiplayer. I need to know:
1) How to connect over LAN.
2) How to get the keys pressed on the other computer to return values.

It's amazing how much TV has raised us. (Bart Simpson)

The only books I can think of off the top of my head are written for people using C++ with DirectPlay, which might help, but I don't know.
The Beginner's Guide to DarkBasic Game Programming has a pretty thorough section on multiplayer programming.

We're working on a multiplayer system (a real online network) and putting together a simple connection library for all languages.

It's WIP at the moment, but info can be found here:
http://darkbasicpro.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=31869&b=8

It'll be geared towards serious projects. We expect to have a simple online order form with immediate access (if resources are immediately available).
