Hello
I got a question to you guys.
Do you think that its ok to download X software for the only
purpose of learning it or you should wait untill buy the program
before start learning it?

if you mean downloading a cracked version then that would be piracy and very very wrong , but if you mean downloading a demo then thats another ballgame entirely

Downloading cracked full versions of the software is illegal regardless of what you want to do with it. And lets face it - you are not likely to register the thing.

Many providers offer educational discounts, or trial versions which you can use to learn the software. Failing that, look for some freeware or cheaper alternatives instead.

Can't afford Microsoft Office? Use OpenOffice.
Can't afford PhotoShop? Use Gimp.
Can't afford 3D Studio Max? Use MilkShape.
Can't afford Visual Studio? Use DevC++. (or KDevelop)

I mean warez and crack version of course.
You must download a demo before buying the software.
Im talking about downloading for learning the software and I mean
only learning after all how can anyone expect from a 13 years old
kid to buy trueSpace for $600?!?! (just an example Im 18 ).
There are somw software which have learning edition like maya
but most of the program dont have it.

I have never download any software (I paod for Milkshape and all that)
but people start telling me I should download them because Im not
a company and they cost a lot of money (trueSpace, Cimena4D ect).

It's illegal. I don't recommend doing it. No, I'm not trying to guilt trip you; actually, I've done it in the past. I still have some illegal software on my computer.

Which is why I don't recommend downloading it. Once you have it, it's really tempting to keep (which is what Rob was implying).

Buy gameSpace instead - its a cheaper version of trueSpace. If you can't afford the software it doesn't give you the right to download it. For your purposes though, MilkShape should be quite sufficient.

I would quite like an Aston Martin but I can't afford one - does that give me the right to go out and steal one?

People think that software is so different from everything else. It is not, it has huge development costs just like a car for example.

There is an argument that for software like 3D Studio MAX, which costs $5000, the company is not losing revenue as ordinary Joe could never afford it anyway. However, I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with that view.

It's just like stealing a car, and telling the cops it was a learning experience. I'm sure they'd let you off with a warning

How ironic is it when programmers crack and use programs illegally, you're essentially destroying your own industry.

Its really best not to start pirating software. Sure at first its a little crack here and there, but before you know it you're downloading MP3s every day. Then even that isn't enough, you move on to games and applications. Before you know it your in an alley with a gun to some poor MS programmer asking for a pirated version of Windows XP.

ok...maybe that's a bit of an exageration

I'd never do that because:
1) I shot first, ask questions later
2) I'd kiddnap Bill Gates and shoot him if I had a gun
3) The purple monkey on my keyboard told me not to.

Really? Because that same monkey told me to kill my parents and light George Bush's pants on fire.

Buddy the purple monkey must die.

To get back on topic, download GMax or Maya PLE. Perfectly legal ways of learning how the big boys work. For game purposes, there are plenty of cheaper and even free programs that you can use to make DB compatible models and textures with. There is no need for theft. So, don't go there.

If it's really too expensive, you still can try ebay ... and you don't have to buy the last version, older ones are also good for our uses.

week ) and I have Milkshape

Hahah, quite true. Then they e-mail you to tell you their deal is expiring only to extend it another week.
