Why are our IP's displayed with our posts for all to see? I for one don't like the idea of my IP being viewable by any person who wanders onto the board.
I know everything! At least I don't know anything I don't know.

For me, in every thread in the DBpro discussion forum, and last time I checked I wasn't a mod or anything.

I know everything! At least I don't know anything I don't know.

Woah! Major weirdass errors going on here. If I can obtain moderator powers by accident, I daren't think how unsecure this MB system is.

Well in every forum except general talk forum I see everybodies ip address. As a modderator on some other messageboards people sometimes have what I call "multiple personalities" where they had more than 1 username and this way you can tell easily if they are the same person or not. They would use those other usernames for inapropriate things. This way when there ip's are posted you can find who is actually who.

Actually it's supposed to show them - you have no moderator powers and I can assure you this forum is probably a lot more secure than any other out there (and I'm happy to take up any challenge on that!).

I can disable the showing of IPs on a per board basis, but it's very useful for spotting lamers/spammers/multiple personalities - however we've not had any of those yet so if it continues like that I'll turn off the IPs for all but moderators.

Cheers,

Rich

Could you possible give the user control over displaying thier IPs?
I mean I don't mind my IP for the moderators/admins to see however ... I don't feel very safe with it there for everyone else - I know i have a Firewall just incase, but it does make me feel edgy.
Even more so when people from RGT start to trickle over

Okay, I'll hide the IPs to all but mods and adminds.

Rich

Ya, thanks. I have a static IP, easy to hack. Of course I also have a hardware and two software firewalls... but no computer is hack-proof

Personally don't bother me - although I think all IP's should be displayed. Then if any of us end up with wierd port scans and what have you we could at least tell if a mod was f'kin about couldnt we - call me paranoid but I don't even trust the mods...

Mind you I suppose it's upto personal preference, applauds to Rich for taking the sensible approach.

If you're that worried about your IP, then log into the boards via an annonymiser like http://www.megaproxy.com and visit this page. Unless you have dial-up, in which case you shouldn't worry about your IP at all. It's gonna be different everytime you login.

Hmm... Rich, are you 100% sure about that?

Change the querystring to go to a board that doesn't exist, create a new topic in this "empty" board then try and save it. The entire SQL query is shown for that action. The reason this is significant is because it gives the database name and other "useful" info. I expect that is not a big deal though. More worryingly you can reveal the actual UNIX root to the website on the Yabbse board.

what is a signature?

Warning: Division by zero in /usr/www/users/pairdoor/dbpro/apollo/includes/function_misc.php on line 91
