you cant use it unless you have one of the latest cards and it would run the game at the higest res the game was made for

Useless for gaming or game development really, although it's probaly good for art and modelling. Even very high resolutions would look ugly stretched that big, and it'd be a pain trying to see everything at once...

:: rolls eyes at mouses comments :: Get a clue...

I saw this on sale a while ago, they released it stateside and been meaning to get my hands on one but the price tag put me off a little hehee

Just have to convince work it's a *necessity* ^_^ already got myself a shiney G4 on that pretext hehee
Would be awesome to render out to that screen size without using the plasma, cause that's just too large imo

Now who's picking fights...

Seeing as 800x600 looks stretched on a 15-inch monitor, it's not exactly jumping to conclusions to hypothesize that 1024x768 would look stretched on a 30-inch monitor. Is that math simple enough?

I'm using a 21" at the moment... if i go from my current resolution down to 800x600, it will look heavily pixelated but not stretched.
After a while I will get used to this resolution and it will look normal again to me.
Then when i go back to my usual 1280x1024 it will look tiney but very nicely aliased.

Has nothing to do with the given monitor, it has everything to do with the users perception.

Apple used to have a very similar monitor, i found it rather anoying to have to turn my head when I used it. Give me a nice 23" viewsonic CRT any day of the week.

Two pixels looks like two pixels, period. Once you start getting into semi-modern display resolutions like 640x480, they might look 'okay' to people with bad eyesight. Most people, however, will notice considerable stretching on a 14 or 15 inch monitor up to 1024x768 resolution. Mental accustomness and physical eyesight have something to do with it, but only to an extent. 1024x768 will look stretched on a 30-inch monitor period.

1024x768 is useless on my 1920x1200 screen. The only way to use it it in a window or with big black borders. Scale it up to 2560 x 1600 on a 30 inch screen and it would be like looking at a mosiaic through your grandads glasses.

Oh yeah you guys obviously know exactly what your talking about eh...

Try this einstiens:

Run 800x600 on your monitor at standard 60Hz,
now run it at the Max your monitor is capable of...
Oh wait it looks all stretched/squashed and weird; but wait what are these buttons at the bottom of the monitor for, why is there a menu which allows me to offset the H-Size and V-Size
:: a little tweaking later ::

Oh it's a miricle it doesn't look stretched/squashed anymore!

Apple don't make these monitors for people who don't have a clue what they're doing on a computer or with graphics, they're high-end, high-quality hardware to be used by people who need it or know what the hell thier doing with it.

As I said, you eyes will adjust; Because as I wrote before,

800x600 is a 4:3 Resolution, I run at 1280x1024 which is a 16:9 Resolution... and exactly what I said happens because I have to switch between several resolutions on a daily bases.
All the monitors have been setup to display properly, it's only my eyes that need to adjust.

I suppose TV's also look stretched and badly rendered. You seem to be under the impression that a monitor outputs exactly the same way that DirectX does, so when you resize the screen size that means all the pixels are outta wack.

Tweaking what?

From the apple site
Quote: "User controls (hardware and software)
• Display Power,
• System sleep, wake
• Brightness
• Monitor tilt"

Exactly which one of those adjustments are you going to use?

Oh ffs, you really don't have the first clue.

Right now I'm using a CTX 21VL; At the bottom of my monitor are 4 small buttons and a large one.

ESC UP DOWN ENTER - POWER
Press Enter and you go into the Menu Mode:

Status - Displays Current Resolution (1280x1024), Render Speed
H:64.3KHZ V:60.5HZ
I press down one and I have a Picture menu. When my monitor goes into a resolution where i becomes squashes or stretched it is because the H: KHZ is out of sync, and so you have to adjust you monitor to compensate for it. This is where you do it.

In the Picture menu are 4 Controls, H/V-Position, H/V-Size. The monitor remembers these when you exit, so really if you have a factor set one you should never need to touch these apart from for minor adjustments for certain cards.

it should have 1.33 (4:3) at H/V-Size 50,50 and 1.20 (16:9) at 60,60 normally.
But you'd adjust these to personal tastes...
Of course if your getting around H:55KHZ or less this will look stretched because your monitor is not ACTUALLY capable of that given resolution.
No matter what you set your system to your Monitor itself has to be capable of <60KHZ refresh speed at that resolution. Else you will get a stretched look, you can always offset this; but sometimes when there just isn't enough speed for it there is nowt you can do about it.

Apple's Montiors all have a similar menu system, tucked underneath the main frame; but also accessible from within MacOSX Graphics Controls.

Raven, grow up and stop flaming the forum. And if you want to use a 30-inch monitor to display a small box 1/3 of the screen size, be my guest
