Please run this and let me know what card you have and what result you get. This way I can figure out what res options to offer for my textures.

Nice one peeps.

I'm on my notebook now but I know the max textures my graphic card can take, 4096x4096. same for my notebook which has a Geforce FX Go5700 64mb, most of the cards 'new' support 4096x4096.

Yep, my 5600 does the same. Would be nice to get stats on Geforce4ti,
GeforceMX and similar spec ATI cards, plus some Geforce2s.

Guess my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 megabyte isn't as badass as I thought it was.

Good stats. Thanks. 2048x2048 is plenty big enough for my needs, so I'll go with that.

Cheers again peeps.

Yep,it's pro, but dont worry. I've got plenty of info now! Everyone else who adds to this post is unnecessarily weighing down the db forum server!

Beware Fallout that although most cards can handle large textures ( > 512x512), they will cause a serious performance hit. I found in the past that reducing a backdrop texture from > 512x512 to less than 512x512 improved FPS by 15!

Well, the thing is, for my maps I want to use generic texture kits, which is one big 2048x2048 texture with all the textures built in (much like how you'd texture a matrix). This way I can just use the texture object command in db with one texture number to texture the whole level, allowing me to make different seasonal textures. So I just needed to know how big the textures could be. The actual UV info for any one object in the scene will probably be equivilent to mapping a 256x256 texture, so hopefully it won't crash out the speed too much.
