Hi All

Took the plunge & finally decided to try modelling after buying Milkshape over a year ago. It's going Ok even if it has just taken me over 6hrs just to get a torso & legs I'm happy with.

I have a couple of questions regarding using models in a game:

1. If I have a model is it valid to use multiple textures on it, so I can say for example just re-texture the models boots by changing the texture assigned to it & is it possible to do it once the model is loaded into DBP? Also are there min/max recommended sizes for textures?

2. If say for example I have a female model loaded into DBP & I want to add something to it say such as a skirt which will cover/attach to both the torso of the model & the legs is there a best/easy way to animate the skirt along with my model so it moves correctly when the model is animated (i.e. running) so the top of the skirt stays attached to the torso & the bottom moves with the legs?

Hope I used some of the correct terminology, forgive me if I didn't. I'm sure some of you clever guys can answer these.

You can use multiple textures as long is there is only one texture per limb. Beyond that you start dealing with multitexturing and it gets slightly more complex. There is no specific texture size...Iit all depends on what the target hardware is and how many pixels the model will occupy on screen. You do however want to use multiples of 2. Examples being 256x256 and 512x1024. You can also use sizes like 768x512 (256+512=768).

I can't answer the animation question as I don't use milkshape.

Thanks for the response Frogger, that answers/solves at least half my problem

The second question is more when the .X model is already in DBP I want to add the skirt as another .X model if possible & animate it with the existing model. I guess logically it's going to have to be a totally seperate animated object, but it would be nice if I could glue it to the existing object. That and animating every part like that aint gonna be a lot of fun.
