is it possible to make an MM/MMO game in DBPro? If so how would i do this? Would i have to use the multiplayer commandos included, or would i have to get the client prog to connect to a server and then send info there and back? I remember in the old days of DB there were a lot of ambitious MMO projects but none of them actually saw completion......

The reason that most MMO projects don't see the light of day is that they require a massive amount of content. With no manpower, no budget, and generally no clue (or design docs) it is safe to say that 99.9% of these projects are doomed from day one.

The lanugage 'out of the box' can handle 255 peer to peer connections, a much more realistic goal for beginners. You can write a server and have it talk to a DBP client, but you would most likely need to have some skill with C++ and a working knowledge of network programming. After all, the DLL extensibility of DBP can make just about anything happen.

... i'm curious of what people would just do ONLINE games ...
not just multiplayer games , but persistant universes !
guys stop it all , a lot persons who launch those ideas in dbpro haven't just done a working program

A program is sensed to be a conventional mean to give orders to a computer and not being obscure, weird, and full of traps ,that is closer to magic stuff (Dave Small).

True, with VirMin I'm satisfied with humble multi-player online gaming. I don't need massive connectivity or a server farm for hundreds or thousands of clients. I might play a wargame, board game, or RPG with six players tops. Beyond that, it's just a mob scene.

I agree completely, while it might be possible to create a MMORPG in DarkBasic (though after playing with the multiplayer commands I doubt it), you are better off avoiding the idea completely.

The other problem with MMORPG's, from a production standpoint, is that they just aren't that fun for an indie developer to build. Even if you were to manage to get together the code needed to get the game running, then you have to worry about user accounts, database management, content updates, character balancing, ownership agreements, and a lot of whining. A LOT of whining. Craploads of whining. Seriously, there are a lot of really great MMORPG players out there, but there are easily three times as many whiners. The good players will go off and create fan sites and guilds and such, but the whiners will be incredibly vocal in their dislike of your game, even if they continue to play it. You could create three really fun smaller games in the time it takes you just to sift through your forums trying to read all of the nasty stuff people are writing about your game.

Trust me, start small, it will be much more rewarding for you.
