I have

Languages:
DBC 1.13 enhcanced
DBpro 5.4
MS C++ 6.0
Borland C++ 5.0 and Builder
VB.net
(TASM, Masm 6.0, and NASM)

Modelers:
Lightwave 5.5
MilkShape
Blender
gMax

2D Apps:
Photo Shop
Paint Shop Pro
The Gimp
MSpaint

I haven't worked much with 3D but I would like to. So what should I get.

GameSpace (because I'm not that good with any of my modelers yet)
Darkmatter 1
Darkmatter 2
GeoSpace
Cartography shop 4
Texture Maker
giles

GameSpace may be a bit much, but if it's worth it I'll get it. Out of the others depending on the cost I might be able to get two.

Like say C-shop & giles

Thanks for any help

Get cart shop. And gile[s] if you can. That's the ultimate in indoor level creator.

Thanks megaton, That's what I was leaning towards. I wasn't sure if there was a problem with cartshop 4 and update 5.4 but i Will check the c-Shop thread for those answers. Thanks for your input.

Rub it in why dontcha !

It wasn't actually a 'u nerd' joke, I just meant it seems like you've got a full array of game dev tools already .

Edit- Oh wait, misread the lists...

Get texture maker. Best value from a TGC product barring only DB/DBP, in my opinion (TGC just resells it actually). It's a fantastic texture design and editing tool. I have no 1337 sk1llz and still manage to make nice seamless placeholder textures with it in minutes, and as I'm teaching myself the scripting system and advanced options, I've actually made some good game textures. It also contains a very nice terrain renderer (ala a light Bryce) and some other great tools.

I know.
Me a Nerd???
/me hides his extensive lego mindstorms collection.

Yeah, I guess I'm one of those who feels the need to buy every new tool, only to find I spend more time trying to learn the tools then actually porgramming, then I get another tool. It's a vicious cycle that I don't reccommend for anyone.

I was hoping c-shop would be more suitable to creating the indoor environments fro DB. I purchased a book on level building with Gmax for C++ games.

If anyone knows, the question was sort-of asked in C-shop board but hasn't been answered.

Since c-shop V5 is in the works and the upgrade will cost $$, and noone seems to know how much - Should I just wait for V5 to come out and buy it then.??

I don't want to purchase c-shop 4 in the last few weeks it's out only to have to purchase c-shop V.5 for more money.

I also wan't able to find out when exaclty version 5 will be released.

Hopefully some answers will be available in the c-shop board soon.

Thanks rich,

I guess I'll purchase the CS4 then!

@mouse, yeah that texture maker looks good too. Even with skills and tutorials I have it's hard for me to make tile-able seamless textures. lot's of flipping, mirroring, rotating, editing and still it may not look right. So I think I'll get CS4 and texture maker. after I learn how to use CS's lightmapper I may than look to explore giles.

Sincerely,
~zenassem

I don't believe you can, unless you purchase it from someone who has previously owned it, and pay an additional license.

I've had it for a few years now, and it has more options than I'll ever be able to learn. I mainly used it for renders, and for cut-scene animation. (takes a long time on a single processor desktop). I haven't tried to use it in a 3D game-because it's better for producing organic models as opposed to architectual levels. And I don't have 3d studio max character animation to export to. Again, for me, the animation of models in Lightwave is beyond what I know how to do. I orignally purchased it to render logoanimations, 3d to 2d stills and the like.
