Curious for a few reasons.

What, if any, MMOs (RPG or FPS) have you played in the past and are you playing now? I'm talking from Meridian 59 to Runescape to Everquest to Planetside-- anything.

(Diablo II, Battlefield games and the like don't count though. My requirments for 'MMO'-- it has to be graphical (MUDs don't count in this) and it has to have a persistant world.)

Not runescape (can you say... old fad?)

Ahh I'm playing Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne, and I'm trying to get signed up for the beta of Dark and Light- http://www.darkandlight.com

I also play Medal of Honor Allied Assault from time to time, and Diablo 2 (exp).

What's not? You said, "What, if any, MMOs (RPG or FPS)"

Anyone else play Frozen Throne?

I used to play Runescape also, that game is not healthy I say. I spent probably around 400 hours playing that. And I'm not joking either.

Played Final Fantasy XI but after I got 3 or 4 advanced jobs to 30+ and some other normal jobs to 20+ the game became so annoying.
Basically in FFXI you would fight the same monsters with different names and groups would be nearly impossible to get since the jobs/classes werent equal.

Played Planetside but that game has/had some major issues back in November of last year. Very cool game though

Played City of Heroes for 2 months but that game was really repetitive since there was no item finding/tradeskills to waste time. Basically all you did was fight bad guys non stop and fight in "warehouse" themed Clubs since the makers didnt bother to make the indoor missions different (you would fight in the same place over and over and over).

Played Everquest, That was a great game.

Currently Play Counter strike. By the way, How could you consider CS to be part of this post but BF1942 not or a game similar to that.

Just Bought Joint Operations and its really awesome. It says 150 people online but really I can only play with like 80 to 100 people without getting lagged. But other than that this game is really good and I would suggest anyone that likes BF1942 to get it (I think it blows BF1942 away though).

MMORPG=Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. Example: World of Warcraft

MMOFPS=Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. Example: PlanetSide

MMO's have persistent worlds meaning that what happens to a world(server) stays. In CS, everything is reset round after round. (Except a few things.)

Does CS have a mass amount of players playing each other online?

I played priston tale (I still do actually, not very often though), but the latest patch has made me lose intrest. I still have my lvl37 mech, lvl41 knight and lvl21 warrior though

All they do now is trade crystals (wings anyone?)

I also play Medal of honor Breaktrough/spearhead often. I lost my accounts on D2 (due to in-activity), means I've lost 24 lvl99 chars. Gotta love the old D2HACK-IT and MapHack days

And now Im sticking with DarkGALAXY and Cybots

Eric T, CS is not an MMO and any serious web dictionary or game guru could tell you so (read the latest Game Developer magazine)! You could say that all games are RPGs since you 'play a role' in all games, but that doesn't change the way we use the term. Similarly, massively multiplayer games must have persistant worlds. Period. If CS was played on a couple servers with thousands of players fighting at a time and the game never resetting, it'd be an MMO. It's not, so it's not. Everquest, Priston Tale, Runescape, Planetside-- those are all persistant worlds and thus MMOs.

Thanks to all for the feedback on games , I appreciate it.

Tell me the orignal man who defines a MMO as a game with a persistent world? Tell me why that everybody would go out on a limb and decide that MMO has to be persistent. Why can't MMO be as it's acronym states. Why has Sierra not been sued for false advertisement for using the acronym MMOFPS on there box. Why does game informer Refer to CS as a MMOFPS?

So does this also mean that Unreal Tournament is not a MMOFPS?

Please enlighten me...

@Eric T

CS max players per server: 32

PristonTale max players per server: I dont know, but IIRC, I saw one of the servers(Priston tale has 4 official servers i believe) have 400 players at once.

Even if MMO doesn't have to have a persistent world, CS is hardly massive.

But how many servers does CS have? Ability for massive amounts of players online at one point playing each other.

Yes, CS does have alot of servers. But the 'Massive' in MMO doesn't refer to the massive amount of servers you can play in, it refers to the massive players you can play with at once on one server.

In truth, CS does have more players than many MMO's. But these players cannot face each other all at once. Until each server can support more players, it remains a multiplayer online game. Not a massive multiplayer online game.

Eric T you're completely missing the point. And of course Unreal Tournament isn't an MMOFPS! Good god ask anybody in the industry and they'd say it isn't. It's an MFPS. MASSIVELY MUTLIPLAYER means massive amounts of players on one server, in one game. See?

Lol, I would love to see 400 players in UT using their redeemers at the same time in 1 game.
