Moochoos? The Isle of Wight based, reader of The Week?

Anybody else know of other coders gone AWOL?

He is waiting for BT to get his ADSL connection working.

They'd better get a move on too, coz that's one bear with a lot of legal letters after his name ... and he's not afraid to use them

HellIVIonkey is at college or something. Says so on his website, well it did last time I checked. As for TDK_man...dunno about that.

I think in between college stuff, HellIVIonkey is working on transferring SkyCars to Pro. Which as it says on his website, is easier said than done.

Luckily all my stuff tranfers to Pro fine. (probably because most of it is not 3d)

EDIT

While we're on the subject, there was a guy on the Galaxyware Forum (HellIVIonkey's forum) called AG3NTSM1TH (or maybe something even more leety) who went AWOL for some reason.

Warpy, that sounds familiar. Did he make a Quake3 style plasma tube? - my first ever app (vanMP3) used some of his code, I think you might have contributed as well.

I can't really remember, I cannot find anything Q3 related in his folder - but that doesn't mean anything

I just checked and I have 390MB worth of old DB source code! I think I collected every possible thing that was posted.

Cheers,

Rich

I think you'd remember, probably not be shown as Q3 anything, it just looked like the plasma tube on the intro to Q3 - like when the 3 characters are spinning around there's a cool plasma tunnel. I'll check tonight anyhoo.

I have a lot of DBC demos too, most of them are ropey FPS demos or object-on-matrice demos though .

lol @ Rich

I remember Warpy. He was quite the coder.

I first started browsing DB forums in late December of '99! It is funny looking back at all the people that have come and gone. There have been so many unique personalities and some great coders.
I like these forums and the RGT ones, but somehow they just don't compare to the good old days....
What was it called then? Dark4um? My mind is a bit rough today because I helped my brother-in-law celebrate his 21st birthday last night

Van - ah yeah, my Warp Tunnel code! I remember writing it - it rolled an image down, re-grabbing the texture and applying it to the object so it made it look like you were flying down it.

Then a few days later Lee releases an upgrade with "scroll texture".

Bastard

Wolf - I don't think too much has changed other than the balance of newbies to more experienced coders to be honest. Also back then it was still all frontier stuff - I remember coding things like the first fractal routine or pcx viewer, and it was a constant challenge against the Blitz demos released. But now DBPro and video cards are so powerful it has taken away that "challenge" to be honest. It has actually become a lot more complicated I think. Quite ironic in a way.

Cheers,

Rich

To compete with the visuals on Blitz FPS demos, I reckon we desperately need better alpha texture support and normal mapping - once we get those I can't wait to see what people come up with . We already have good alpha support - as long as it's a bloomin alpha's .DDS file! - not convenient. Of course, I've never been able to get one of them blitz terrain demos to run on my PC so I'm going by those eerily flawless screenshots...

I think it may have been the frontier aspect. Not sure really.
The herd was a lot smaller then too which made it a more tightly knit group. I'm not saying that these days don't have their perks though.
It has been cool watching DBS/TGC and it's community growing up. The best analogy that I can think of is comparing it with my kids. My oldest is 3.5 now. He is getting to be a lot of fun. There are so many thing that I can do with him now that I couldn't before. That dosn't mean that I don't miss him being a little baby though. There is just something extra special about that time.

My cousin is 5, you should hear some of the stuff he comes out with, and his mum doesn't even do anything to stop him!

I were just 14 when I got into DB (2000)...
Actually, the reason I got into it was to make a platforming game called "Dumbo and cool" (Notice any similarities?)

Memories...
