Just interested to know when we can expect to see the new Forum? I beta-tested a couple of months ago, suitably impressed, and I'm eager to see it live!

Was about to ask this. I thought it was going to go live with the new dedicated server?

Indeed - it all seems to have gone quiet regarding the new forum...

It won't be here for a while unfortunately, or at least that's what I recall Rich saying in a thread I can't remember the name.

Development of it comes in fits and bursts, based around workload at other times. This will probably always be the case. Some days I find myself inspired and with a few free hours [insert 'Hide from Rick' forum code] and carry on developing it, but then I get pulled back into the competition, the book, product activation, new releases, etc.

Such is life.

Cheers,

Rich

What's so interestingly new in this layout?

I mean,I don't know about some of you,but an ignore function won't save you from reading the quoted crap

As Exeat says, just about everything. There's some real good stuff, such as colour-coding for threads you've started, threads you've contributed to, and threads you have no association with.

I added a whole bunch of features to d-mail including a Hotmail styled "mass delete" tickbox affair, an option to forward the d-mail to your own email account, a "reply to sender" link and even better - a flashing "new mail" icon which persists until you next enter the d-mail area of the site."

Lol, I take it progress has slowed considerably since then.

Exeat - that was talking about DBDN, which had D-Mail in and working from the start.

It was never built into Apollo and still hasn't been.

I think the forums are fine as they are - they're quite fast even for 56k users

I should have changed my signature when asked

If you are redoing the forums, an image upload feature would be convenient please Rich, even if it's only for small images. Know you have a lot to do anyway, just another [obvious] idea. Overall though, I do agree with Froggie that these forums are a nice place to be around.

With regards to Apollo:

hehe naaahh I saw a while back just how much bandwith and memory this already takes up. A image upload feature would just break the net . Besides its easy enough to get hosting with the new 10 meg no registration webhost & jimmys dbspot.

A nice feature would be that a User who created a thread could lock/unlock his/her own thread as they wish - not sure why, but it would be nice.

Right, I suppose my logic doesn't fit. Afterall, Americans are from all over the world, therefore there wouldn't actually be such thing as a real American...

And then there's the fact that just because my parents were convicts, doesn't mean I'm a criminal too.
