Can anyone knowledgable on the subject give ratings on the freebie modellers, best to worst at a 5 to 1 scaling grade. Also, how about the same rating system for modeller's under $50 or one's country monetary equivalent. I myself have used Anim8tor, which I guess fairly detailed static models can be made with it, but no animation for games. Deled is about the fastest and easiest modeller I have used so far, but once again no animations for games, only static models. I am currently also using Metasequoia, Wings3D, and going to try ppModeller today. I've tried Milkshape 3D but I need to put more into learning it better. I think it is important to state whether the modeller will export animations that can or eventually be converted to .x, bsp, or other file format that DB can use.
Any Ideas on this?

You list the packages and I'll give the ratings. You did highlight some important aspects though which free modelers should have.

Milkshape 3D - 4 ($25). It would be a 5 but it's texture coordinate editor is somewhat lacking.

And there's better animators out there.

CharacterFX(not a modeler, but animation package)
$15, I give it a 4 out of 5.

I'm not sure if every (free) modeller should have all the aspects mentioned. A modeller could also focus on just a few aspects of course and leave other aspects out. Matter of choice.

Use the free 3D modeller DeleD to get skilled in 3d editing! Visit http://www.delgine.com for more info.

I use wings, meta, could use lithunwrap like before, and I use blender(animation), Gimp for 2d.

(with those above your setup...)

But also...I prefer to cut times using sometimes also my purchased deep paint3d, ultimate unwwrap, some times Character Fx.

MilkShape 3D 1.x for 25$ US is a 4 out of 5. MilkShape 3D 2.x when released will be a 5 out of 5 for the money.
