Hi everyone,
I read about the compo, and have already started on my entry (Scorched Earth).
Just wanted to know who's entering, and what they chose. Y'know, to get a clear view of what I'm up against, also the amount of people.
Exiting, this'll be my first compo entry - and I'm gonna win! (or at least lose with enthusiasm...)

yea, i'm going in it, it'll be good fun and i don't expect to win anything but it will improve my coding. First of i'm entering a snake game, the reason for this being was that i was making one before the comp started. then i will try to make a 'Scorched Earth' or gorillas style game.

Good Luck Every1!!!

If less than 50 people enter, then you're bound to win something!
That's probably not going to happen...
With that amount of prizes, if you start early, you might have a good chance.
Anyway, good luck!

I'm going to make the coolest 3D multiplayer snake game you've ever seen with realtime shadows and reflections, with ray-casting and alpha blending and Multi-texturing! It's gonna have the best AI players and crazy interactive 3d levels. And there's gonna be huge explosions and rag-doll physics for the snakes and food and bombs, and laser-gun - light-saber action! Use the force! Stunning audio and visual effects! It'll re-define the gaming industry!

lol

On second thought I'll stick with the 3d tank game I'm programming.

I think not
One's for questions about the compo (the official thread @ DBpro section)
The other is asking people their ideas.
This one gets straight to the point, asking who's in, and who's not (actually, don't just come here to tell me/us you're not entering)
Although, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Originally I thought I'd give it a bash, but I don't really have enough free time to work on the projects I want to do as it is. It's a case of - do I spend the next 3 months using my 'game making free time' to create a game for this compo, or do I use it to make a game I actually want to make?

If it was a case of winning a PC, or something then it'd be worth a bash. As it stands, the prizes are cool, but they're not worth 3 months of my free time (or however long the deadline is).

Compos, jobs and other interests don't mix.

I might enter, because I have an idea now for a good game. It depends on how fast the game will run.

I might make a snake game because:

A)I have never heard of any of the others

B)I start to many FPS games but never finish them

Sans the lasers, that's what I plan on making, seriously. Figuring out how to dynamically add joints to an existing critter is going to be my first challenge. I'm using this as an excuse to learn more about Newton. My son wants to enter the contest as well, his plan to make a Kaiju (Japanese giant monster) version of Scorched Earth using critters that he's making in DoGA (imagine a mix of SE and Rampage.)

North Balwyn, which is east of the CBD and in the Camberwell and Box Hill area. Assuming you know where any of those places are.

I'm going to try a 3D snake game. Except instead of a snake it will be a mouse who has to get the end of the level without eating to much cheese while avoiding snakes.

Dont worry and keep a cool head.

A-ha! Somebody else has noticed the minor detail that makes this a non-newbie option!

I will enter but don't know which of the three options to go for.

OP wolf would be good but sourcing all the graphics and models would be hard (I can't model yet!).

Snake would be quite easy so long as I can come up with some good ideas to make it stand out from the rest.

Scorched Earth is my favoured game as I played Amiga 'Tanx' a hell of a lot years and years ago. I have downloaded Tanx and Scorched Earth Amiga roms and having a good play. Some of the weapons in Scorched Earth are completely mad! Still wondering what sort of destructible terrain system to use though and whether to use 2D or 3D.

Anyhow, not gonna start until my Retro Remakes compo entry 'Splat' has progressed a lot more.

Using the Newton physics library actually... Not that I'm trying to blow any newbies out of the water, but I want to play with Newton some more. Of course, faking snake-like behavior out of a rigid body physics system is another one of those challenges.

I've started a scorched earth entry and am currently trying to speed up my slow-as-hell memblock deformable terrain system.

Isn't it? Wasn't it? Marvellous!

I was going for a operation wolf game. Having previously written 3rd person code for sliding collision with line of sight and various moves such as cartwheels, I just can't be bothered with making the 3d models. As a result I have had to go back to basics and have finished the level editor for a cross between Snake and Ring Rage - should have a playable version very soon.

I was at first thinking about making a scorched-earth game using Newton, but I've had an idea for an Op-Wolf game that I think would be really cool if I can actually pull it off. right now I'm trying to think of ways to keep the game interesting while reducing the number of models/levels I would have to create

either way, whatever I make is going to be a Newton fest

I'm entering and am making a 3D snake game. Still working on the basics of it before I start adding in crazy stuff. So far the only twist I have on it is the non-classic movement style and the fact that in each level you have objectives.

Sure, the number of people that contribute to a submission does not impact scoring or prizes awarded. Team and individual entries are treated the same.
