Hey all,
With only a month or so to fill until Half-Life 2 is released I thought I might aswell have another stab at the original. The problem is, the copy I've got worked fine on Windows 98 but now I'm using XP home edition and there's a problem with game compatibility(spelling). On inserting the disc and clicking on the HL icon I get a messgage saying there are known problems with this game running on xp, do you want to continue, I clicked on continue and got as far as the main menu, I then clicked on single-player or whatever it is and get a message asking to insert the disc, even though it's already inserted, I get the same when trying to play the training mode, I tried taking the disc out and putting it back in but got nothing. So I started looking for the correct updates but everywhere I look the updates aren't to be seen. I was hoping/praying that someone had encountered the same problem and could point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.

Install Service Pack 1, alot of games have problems until you do that.

Thanks for the help, I'll try them now and if there's no change, I'll just have wait for HL2 (or maybe get call of duty)
Thanks again.

Steams version of half-life and software rendering don;t work.... gotts use D3d.

Other then that, works good on my end.

lol.... now goto the scenario "Unforseen Consequenses" and everytime you goto a new section of the map it'll give an error. (has been reported to steam numerous times.... they just ignore it even though almost all people using software rendering get this prob.)

Besides, D3D looks better.

That's a debate that we'll try not to go into, ok?

Oh well, I just cut my losses and bought Half-Life generations, goodbye old, crummy version of Half-Life, hello brandnew version of Half-Life, Half-Life opposing force, Half-Life blue shift and counter-strike. Time for some good old head crab hunting me thinks
