The GUI is fine. I've used it and its fine.

Also, don't doubt that EzCattle, Mnem and the whole TOPIA team are beavering away in the dark dungeons in which they lurk. You'd be amazed what they cook up - just hang out in the DBPro IRC channel for a while to see what I mean.

Mnem's still working on the server, it's hopefully going to be a big improvement in performance and general scalability. Don't worry, it's still here

Yeah, well you didn't see the original post! It had a rather unfortunate typo. It read: "You'd be amazed what they cock up ..." Thank God for the edit post button.

A freudian slip perchance?

Its not Cattle's fault. He has had a few team staffing issues.

Besides, he's also trying to get into the Guinness book of records for the longest development time ever.

Well he's got a lot of ground to make up, Duke Nukem Forever is just entering its 12th year of development, which is closely followed by Daikatana which took 8 years, and Battlecruiser 3000 which took 6.

Cattle doesn't have any problem with exceeding the 12 year development cycle. What you don't know, but I can now exclusively reveal, is that Cattle owns a small gas powered portable time machine (with sausage-onna-stick snack roasting accessory). His devious plan is to take the code far back into the past, into the year 305AD, then announce its release then. As it won't be released until 2005, this means he'll have had a 1700 year development cycle.

Easily beating Duke Nukem Forever.

Philip

PS: In case you wanted to know where he got the time machine from, speak to IanM. He is presently selling them. He also sells famous landmarks and small bridges.

That is very devious of him, cunning, but devious. I shall speak to this 'IanM' and enquire into purchasing my own time-portal machine. It could come in quite handy... quite handy indeed...

Indeed, I will speak to "IanM" as well, and enquire into purchasing a couple small bridges. They would make those gaps* to get to my kitten's cavern much easier to cross.

*by gaps, I mean the store.

Er, Cattle, when I was teasing you yesterday about not having a release until Winter 2005, I wasn't *actually* challenging you to try and distort the space-time continuum in rushing out a beta.

Still, colour me impressed.

Uh oh, I can tell by his "look" that he accidently stepped on his hard drive, which had all of DarkTOPIA on it, and he ran around the worth eating any trace of it in his drunkness..

Winter 2017!

UPDATE

Development on the move again. We had a few problems with both the server app and the server box over the last week and a half, pushing back my "two weeks or sooner" statements above. Mnem an I are working together on the server and client atm. Once we have the new server app in place somewhere where I can test and devel the client further, it shouldnt be too long after that that the beta opens its doors...

I'm to blame. When I went off to hibernate from the community for a few months Mnem and Cattle lost interest.

I'm off to buy a cattle prod tomorrow afternoon.

didn't know this thread could still be responded to. I just reread the whole thing - quite amusing to see how things evolve over time, even if ultimately to their demise

thanks to everyone who encouraged us in this project, and to everyone who was involved directly, and indirectly.

cheers
