I really need some kind of virtual wind tunnel software, i dont care how expensive it is if you can just find me anything you can so i can at least have a look at it, right now im having no luck finding a free one so im willing to check anything at the moment, i have found one good peice of software called "virtual wind tunnel" but if anyone knows anything else similar or better please post it here.

Thanks in advance.

I had made something similar really long ago in euphoria. Though, it only worked with 2D images instead of 3D objects. I used it in a game where the player could make his own ships and the adgility would depend on the "score" returned by the "wind tunnel". It wasn't that hard to make, though I don't know how acurate it was.

When/What do you need it for? Right now I can't do it, but later on I'd like to give this a shot. Though, if you're in need of something very realistic, I won't be able to help you there. I'm a coder, not an airplane tech.

I'm in no rush to get this i need a realistic one because im modelling an f1 car and i think it would be fun to see how my model does in a wind tunnel (its my own concept shape).

You might want to have a look at some of the physics engines thats around, like Newton or Tokamak. However, for a windtunnel, you'd most likely need a fluid engine, which I haven't seen around to be honest. Maybe someone like Walaber or Wolf can help you with it.

A realistic wind tunnel software application? I dont think it exists. If it did it would have to be as a plugin for Autocad or some such, as it would need to know the composition of the materials and paints in order to determine heat transfer (hot air rises).

Failing that then the next best thing for wind tunnel testing would be builing a miniature tunnel yourself, which you can do for a few hundred pounds.

Andy, such software definitely exists, but you'd be talking in the price range of 1/2 million or more. Air is a fluid, so a fluid dynamics program could handle a simulation of it, but they're usually not cheap either.

If you want i'll strap a model of your F1 concept to my crash helmet and race up and down the main strait at Rye House with a josh stick strapped to the front so the smoke shows the air flow?

Im not Eddie Jordan, so that just happens not to be my concept car . nice attempt though. I do hire kart racing and im top of my championship!! oooh! arent i special! anyway back to the subject..

this is actually perfect for what i mean:

PS: By strapping it to your helmet how would u know if it was aerodynamically efficient or not? use your magical brain sense to feel how the air goes over it through the helmet?

LOL Clown, that's what the Josh Stick is for, so an outside observer can watch the smoke and check the airflow.

/sigh Some people are so silly...

EDIT: If your winning hire karts you can probably compete quite well at Pro Kart racing, Nick and I along with a 3rd driver not on these forums are doing club racing at the moment and have been hovering just off the rostrum, we are running just off the rostrum at the moment, the top of the small budget teams - and like you we started with hire karts.

Unfortunately we've just broken the chassis and cant race this month, just as we had the chance to borrow some works engines which would have given us a real chance of winning the next race . Ack well, if I sell my car maybe I can get one of our own engines tuned - unfortunately there are 2 on the kart...

Well, i can send that quote right back at you. I didnt know josh sticks kept going in 70mph winds...

edit: shame about your kart, gl with it in the future, must be all those josh sticks melting the chassis .
