It will be well worth the wait the game play and graphics are mind blowing. I have two computers for games and the one has a geforce 4 mx and it looks amazing on that and my other pc got a ati radeon 9600 and it runs doom3 with resolutions on high and AA on 8X. Of you do not have a 5.1 surround sound system it is well worth it, the game is just that much better.

A problem i see with this sentance is AA 8X. Radeons only do upto 6x, further more even my X800 XT struggles doing 1280x1024x32 4xAA 8xAF on the High Quality Settings.

I think I'll put this post in the same catagory as GameWiz's Geforce 5700 which can outperform a 5900.

Runs fast and looks good on my machine at 1024 x 768 with ultra high textures and all the extra options on except vertical sync and aa. If i put aa on 2x it every now and then you'll notice a little frameskip but aa on 4x is just about unplayable. Haven't played around alot with the settings cause it looks good enough and runs fast at 1024 x 768 ultra high textures with aax2.

specs
Intel P4 3.4ghz 800fbs 1mb L2 Cache
Pci Express Ati X600 XT 128mb
1gb DDR 3200

"Is there any processor that has 1gb L2 Cache"

i believe raven has one...

but that's seriously a very cool idea. processor and ram AS ONE. only problem? static ram is a huge, heat-producing, power-sucking beast. 1GB of static ram would be ... ridiculous though it would be quite fast!

OK enough of that damn DBP fanboy banner. i'm NOT a DBP fanboy in any way. i haven't used DBP in over a year, and i don't really plan on using it again.

Would the speed be worth it?
If you divided the processor into a processor and wires going to it's cache would it be smaller and not use so much heat? If you added a couple extensions coming out of the processor(the ones coming in and going out of the cache) and somehow attached a 512mb stick of ram to it, would it work?

"If you added a couple extensions coming out of the processor(the ones coming in and going out of the cache) and somehow attached a 512mb stick of ram to it, would it work?"

it wouldn't work, and if it did, and there's a small problem - the cache is just that, a cache. it wouldn't function correctly, as the computer still would think that it had to flush the cache to regular RAM. what we would need is a total computer / processor architecture rethink and redesign. one where the concept of a cache would not exist, because the memory would be so close to the processor that it would not NEED a cache.

dynamic ram is the kind of memory that you plug into the DIMM slots. dynamic ram is much smaller, uses less energy and produces far less heat than static ram, simply because each bit is represented by a capacitor and maybe 2 transistors, while static ram has MANY transistors per bit - you end up with a physically larger unit that produces MUCH more heat and uses MUCH more energy. static ram has the advantage of being much faster, as dynamic ram must constatnly be "refreshed" as capacitors have the nasty habit of losing their charge if you leave them long enough (and when you're talking about microscopic capacitors, they lose their charge VERY quickly). static ram is always ready to be used - but then you run into another problem - electrical charges are not instant, so for a very short period of time after you write to the static ram, it does not actually hold the value it's supposed to!

aren't computers fun?

OK enough of that damn DBP fanboy banner. i'm NOT a DBP fanboy in any way. i haven't used DBP in over a year, and i don't really plan on using it again.
