Look on this list of topics for Animation. It says that the last post was by Rob Knight. You look inside, and there is no post by Rob Knight. The topic always remains blue, even when you look in it, and go out again.

If the name is there but the last reply isn't by that author then it means the post by that author was deleted.

It doesn't stay blue for me though, so I don't know why it does for you.

when posts get deleted from threads, but the thread remains open, whacky things start happening

There are a few pear-shaped things at the mo...

The notepad doesn't work (the first icon on the footer of each post).

There is a thread (in Newcomers I think) that's less than a week old, but with dates from April on the posts

The very first post in the Pro thread (in chronological order) goes back years, but you can still add to it.

...and then there are the members who just pick fault...sheesh!

It happens when a post is deleted, but no-one posts after the deleted post.

I deleted a whole load of posts last night from the aforemention poster, but as you saw no-one posted after this poster.

It makes sense internally to store 1 'last post by' field than to actually show the real data. Like everytime you post, it'd store your name and the date/time with the topic, the only other way would be to query the individual posts to get the last poster, which would slow the forum down to a crawl.

This is a guess though, never looked at PHP code, I can only imagine that it's vaguely similar to SQL in it's data handling.

While we're on the subject of forum glitches...

What happened to the custom avatars? It seems to be stuck on no avatar selected with no option to tell it to use the URL I provided. As you can see -----><----- it is not a broken link.

Feh, it looks like it is an inconsistent glitch. Probably server cache related.

@Zircher: it's not a glitch
It's like sometimes when you go to a site that is there, but it can't find it.
