Who're you with? BT? You'll need a CD with the drivers for your modem and everything on it - it also sets up the connection for you.

The problem is that the comp as windows 98, you should get 2000 on it.

if your network is dhcp then you need to set windows98 networking to Automatically Obtain IP Address then reboot the machine - with the lan cable connected

then you can run winipcfg.exe and look thru to make sure you have an IP and all is nice nice

otherwise assign an ip address : EG 192.168.0.7
assign the subnet mask :EG 255.255.255.0
add the routers ip :EG 192.168.0.1
restart and you should be good to go

open
a msdos prompt and ping the router to see if your aquiring a connection.

also "ipconfig" will display this information to see if its correct

I am talking about 98 version B, not SE or ME. I will check again but I will almost swear the the command doesnt exist in plain old 98.

Possibly, but plain 98 was a piece of crap and most people use 98SE.

I keep a plain old 98 partition for gaming as I still play some older windows games that predate 2000/XP, and even a couple of old DOS games now and again
