Just curious about what others thought of this movie.

I liked it, but I was very dissapointed visiting the IMDB boards... apparently 19/20th of the moviegoers completely misunderstood the plot and saw a lot of plot holes that weren't there. I hate it when a good movie's success is ruined by stupiditiy ... would've been fine if people had disliked it while actually understanding the plot.

Opinions?

Brilliant movie, just like all the other M. Night Shyamalan films I've seen. 9 out of the 10 people I went with loved it.

It's about a rural village in olden times which has a truce with creatures that live outside the village's boundries, not to cross into their woods and they won't enter the village-- but strange things start happening. I can't say much more without giving it away. Go see it .

I did too -- and my brother also. But I agree, it was still well done.

More plausible than Signs also.

Looking forward to M Night's next movie!

Erm, I thought it was supposed to be really original? Sure I've seen the same movie loads of times from the 70's.

Quote: "More plausible than Signs also"
God Signs was bad. I thought the twist would be that it was all in his head (would have made it bearable). But no, was just rubbish. Stupid aliens that could be killed by water invading a planet made mainly of water. Duh. Triffids had already knicked that idea. Talk about thick. And then the major suspense with the kid with breathing problems. Yawn.

Cheers

But it still doesn't say the REAL ending. What happened to the villagers? Did they KNOW that they were living in some science project? That wasen't exactly an ENDING too. More like the movie's secret.

SPOILER ALERT

The ruined endings thing is pretty misleading. It's not a science project. The elders were all scarred by the 'real world' and wanted to give their children a chance to live in a place free of hate and crime and violence. When one of the elders' brother died, he was left tons of money, with which he started the wildlife preserve, made it a no-fly zone, and brought in the materials to make the village. It was all with good intentions-- but whether it was the right thing to do or not is in question.

SPOILER ALERT END

No probby . I'm still torn on whether it was the right thing to do or not. On one side, they were making a better life for their children, but on the other side, they weren't trying to help the world, they were just shutting themselves out from it-- a big mistake IMO. I think it's a matter of good intentions and bad action. It generally is.

Don't forget the irony of the death in the beginning, the almost death of joaquinn's character and the death of the mentally ill guy. Tragedy still exists. Which kind of helps your point of how it was a bad decision. Would have been better to change the world rather than escape from something they couldn't.

I get it, Mouse hates what everyone else likes and likes what everyone else hates.

Nah, really, the movie wasn't that great. I hate how they

But my friend is an extra in it. You can see her in one of the opening scenes, just look behind the two little kids and you'll see her...she's wearing a red wig.

Maybe they don't want their 12-year-old exposed to violent and disturbing imagery before he's mature enough to handle it. Good for them-- most parents these days don't give a damn.

Noah stabs Lushis, Ivy slaps Noah, Ivy kills Noah without knowing, the writer of the story is the guy reading the newspaper when the park ranger tries to steal drugs. Noah knows the whole time that the whole thing is a scam, he's always venturing out to the real world, that's why he laughs whenever there's an invasion by "the creatures"

Luchis : Guy in love with Ivy

Ivy : Blind chick who loves Luchis

Noah : Retarded guy in love with Ivy

I saw the movie and loved it

No, he didn't. He probably didn't even understand what was going on. If he'd ventured outside, he'd have been taken to a mental hosptial. He'd simply found one of the creature suits and acted like he knew it should. I personally think this was a kind of multiple personality thing.

I just saw it for the 2nd time and liked it even better, because now my focus isn't on the creatures, but more on how well written, directed and just plain good the movie is.

I just saw the village tonight. Nothing special at all, and the ending was predictable from the start. After looking up the director on imdb and seeing what other movies he's done, I can't say I'm looking foward to anything else he's to do next. Signs had a stupid ending and ruined what could have been a good movie. 6th Sense was just plain dumb. Unbreakable was weak. His movies just aren't anything to get excited over. I think if the storyline of the Village was developed more, it would make a much better book than movie. I did, however, find the thought of a village like that in modern times interesting. I'm not sure if this movie was suppose to be a horror or suspense film, but if it was it failed. I don't regret watching it, which is a plus, but I doubt I'll ever see it again. Oh, and one last thing. Wtf were they thinking, sending a blind chick into the forest where she's not familiar with anything!?

Signs is absolute hogwash although I found it amusing when the hand came under the door and frightened the life out of a woman sitting next to me in the cinema.

Sixth Sense was ok'ish but I worked out the twist straight away and it ruined the rest of the film for me.

Unbreakable is my best of his films as the twist is pretty unexpected and the film is actually quite enjoyable.

Everyone here has spoilt the plot to the village so no point in watching. I'll wait till it's on Sky.
