so this new PCI crap witch is good, but can i get a video card that has PCI and use it on my mothere bord that I have right now?
Or do I have to later buy a mother bord that suports PCI witch it allready dose ??

I plan to get the Geforce 6800 PCI.

Im a little comfused.

im not sure- all this PCI-e stuff is new to me, until recently i thought that there was pic and that was just pci- but now theres a whole load of different types, and i sawa mobo the other day it just had 1 of each type- im like "WTF?" anyway, u plan on getting 6800 PCI- u heard about this new SLI technology right? i think u should bear it in mind.

You mean PCI Express, right?

It's the same slot as a standard AGP. So you can buy a video card like the Geforce 6800 and slot it into your AGP x4 (or x8) motherboard and then when you upgrade your motherboard to one that supports PCI Express, just move it over. That's what I'm doing anyway.

erm, no, pci express slot is not an existing agp or pci slot. There are new boards coming out.

Weird I swear I read somewhere they were similar, ah well - according to the bible that is Toms Hardware I stand corrected The new nvidia PCI-E cards look quite funky..

and beware of pci-x, it is not the same as pci-express!
pci-x vs pci-express is sort of like gf4-mx vs gf4-ti

I looked around at several different places looking for the answers before i bought my new computer alot of sites talk about the motherboards of pci express being different then current agp. But if you look on ati's site there new RADEON X800 XT PLATINUM 256MB AGP that is being released on sept 20th in there product detail sheet it states.

Specifications
System Requirements

RADEON™ X800 PRO, RADEON™ X800 XT and RADEON™ X800 XT PLATINUM EDITION require a connection to your PC's internal power supply for operation. Consult your system builder or OEM to ensure your system has an adequate power supply. Otherwise, ATI recommends a 300-Watt power supply or greater to ensure normal system operation where a number of other internal devices are installed.

Intel Pentium 4/III, AMD Athlon 64/7K/Athlon XP with AGP 8X (0.8v), 4X (1.5V) or universal AGP 3.0 bus configuration (8X/4X) or PCI Express™ bus configuration

From my understanding there saying that the card will be agp/pci-e compatable.
Computers with pci-e slots are alreay out the sony vaio r series that i just purchased is running a pci express ati radeon x600 xt card. I already can't wait for the 20th to upgrade my card to bad i couldn't wait another month so i didn't have a x600 xt card in the closet collecting dust like all my older graphics cards

As far as I know, the X800 has versions for AGP and PCI-Express. But you can't get a single card that will plug into an AGP *and* a PCI-Express slot. ie. You cannot buy it now, plug it into an AGP slot, then later upgrade the PC to PCI-Express and plug it into that.

Yup you guys are right, i missed the word or while reading it. But i did some more searching and saw some articles about dual motherboards 915p-a is one, that some companys are making that will carry a agp and a pci express slot both however the boards out now are not true agp slots so not all cards will be supported.
