This may help...goto run in the start menu and type "dxdiag". If the fault is in your graphics card it will come up here. Run the tests from all of the tabs and try the troubleshooters. If none of this works it will have to be the knowledge of another user or contacting windows. Hope this helps!

I'm sorry, i've never heard of your error before. Like i said, you'll have to wait for another user to give you a hand or go to your local pcworld (i don't know what country you're in so i can't recommend a store), a compaq website, windows. Maybe if you go to the compaq website or the ati website you could download the new drivers for your graphics card which may help. I would usually recommend using system restore found on all xps but as you had to reinstall windows i wouldn't try it. Sorry if none of this helps.

i tryed reinstalling directx again and i still get any error but i'm not sure if its the same error because the free web hosting thing that i had the picture on crapped out on me. Well the error now/still is
System Error : ERROR 165. Failed to create a D3D Device from BackBuffer Surface.
Any ideas? Thanks!

darkbasic or darkbasic pro? and what version directx?, you get that error if the version of directx on the computer is too low to support DB, if it`s DB classic then you need 7.1 or higher, if its Pro then you MUST have dx9.0b, the b is important, no earlier version will suffice, it must be dx9.0b.

Mentor.
