EDIT: UPDATED WITH A DEMO

Alright, i've been working on this for about 6 months.
Big parts of the engine were completed.
You can fire phasers,pulses,photons,anti-matter.
Using skills, which they're called "tactics" in game, you'll be able to fire multipe phasers, photon, etc, and more cool things.
You'll be able to use a number of traveling mean, such as:
(1)Impulse drive (already in)
(2)Warp (already in)
(3)Slipstream drive / transwarp (Current being worked on)
(4)Wormholes(for instant travel)

Main races:

(1)Federation
(2)Borg
(3)Species 8472
(4)Romulans
(5)Klingons
(6)Cardassians
(7)Dominion

Other minor races, such as Kazons, will be available also.

You should note, everything is subject to change, as more might be added.

Screenshots (taken in 1024 x 768): I just captured them the last 5 minutes, as i've misplaced the "take screenshot function" after the sync, no interface is shown. But if you'll want more screens, i'll gladly post some more, showing more aspects of the game.

Some of the weapons, are currently "borg themed" (as in greenish looking), so don't panic if you see them being fired of a federation vessel.

this is how is want the transwarp to look like :

Please tell me what you think, and how i could improve the graphics, and especially the transwarp tunnel.

edit: the "img" thing doesn't seem to work.

by the way : thx to everybody who helped me!!!

You need to up the amount of polys for your planets. MAKE OBJECT SPHERE has two additional params you can specify -- rows and columns. Putting 50 on both should suffice. And good luck coding!

As far as your transwarp goes. An inverted cylendar would do the trick. Along with some texture sliding and some layered effects If you want it to actuially do that Scene.org style wormwhole, You may need to use some shaders or the like.

I'm using an inverted cylinder, the texture is sliding.
I'll need to add the type of layer (those gray lines) shown in the image in photoshop, if i could figure out how.

shaders are far too much complicated for me.

thx for the comments.

I wouldn't want to give too much information.
I'm planning several key elements regarding the whole RPG aspect.
As i mentioned, this is still WIP, it is subject to change, and i wouldn't want to get your hopes up.

I'll let you in an update:
(1)The transwarp tunnel's graphics has somewhat improved.

if you don't see the pic : http://zokomoko.itgo.com/transwarp.jpg
(2)Soon, i'll expand the A.I to include attacking ships, and i might if all goes well, release a sneak peak video featuring a fight against Voyager and a borg cube.

if you don't see the pic : http://zokomoko.itgo.com/borg_cubes.jpg

It'll be free.

Haha! I managed to get 3 whole days worth of DS9 while in America!

Voyagers seaons 7 was the best though - followed by Enterprise's xindi storyline.

When choosing a race, the interface will suit the race.

I wish they were 3d objects in DBPRO.
The image shown with the borg sphere, is just an image i found on an website, it was not done in DBPRO.

The image shown with the intrepid class was done in DBPRO, the transwarp tunnel is now much longer btw.

Thx.

I used 3d max for the tunnel, but DBPRO ignores if I do tiling in 3d max.
Now i've this several megs transwarp texture, i tiled manually in paint shop pro.
But when I discover how to make DBPRO tile, it will look much better

As usual, I'll help with the concepts and maybe some legalese support. Make MAJOR notes to Paramount and see what they think with the finished product. I'm thinking of a world far in the future (maybe 2386), when the Dominion and Borg create a siege on the Federation (coincidentally creating an accidental coordination on their attacks on the Alpha Quadrant). The other Alpha Quadrant powers unite with the Federation, and the Kazon find a way to track Voyager down in the Alpha Quadrant. That's where you come in. You are fresh from the Academy, and choose a ship from any star empire/federation (one from each major class, Prometheus included by now). Then, you gain Rank Points towards new ranks by attending training sessions on different parts of the ship. If you're not at the Bridge (ship control), you have Trek weapons and you have to prepare for boarding parties in major battles during this crisis. At the end, you can get your own ship, help your empire to victory, and continue to explore the galaxy.

I'm afraid MMO wouldn't work, but online would take real effort. However, there's an online browser demo in the CodeBase that could be tweaked into the game with some rather advanced DBPro skill. And, I can't program very well at all, so I won't be doing it. I mean, who is taking care of a server that supports 2000+ players? And we don't want a fee to play online, do we? And, thanks if that was to my plot idea!

I don't think paramaunt can have any say in this, since this will be free. am i correct ?

as for the mmporg - i'm building the engine first, if and when it'll be finished, i'll see what can be done.

I'd love to see some classic battles mixed into a quick match-type thing, where you can play out the battles of the past (ST:Generations to ST:Nemesis). I can't wait to own (or be owned by) Shinzon and the Scimitar! (You go to the Scimitar in foot mode, with handheld Federation weapons, playing as Picard) A very, very good game so far, but some warp inconsistencies here-there is no Transwarp (but it is 2386 in this game, so tech may have allowed it by now), and Intrepids have their nacelles tilted vertically at any warp speed.

I've the scimitar ship.
But you can only play as a ship, you won't be able to walk on your ship.
The races are: dominion,borg,cardassians,federation,romulans,klingons,species 8472.
you will select one of those races, and then select one of three classes. i.e like, for the borg, you could choose a borg cube, sphere, diamond, each with its own skills and attributes.
The cube would be relatively much stronger, employ better weapons, and such. The sphere would be much more manuvareable, and use different weapon types. The borg diamond would be more depended on its skills rather then items.
Think of it like diablo 2, where the borg cube is the warrior, and the borg diamond is the sorceress.
The max level would probebly be 99.
When you reach a high level(not max), your ship will change, the borg cube would become the borg tactical cube, the borg sphere would become the borg tactical sphere, and the borg diamond would become the borg queen ship. This would have some influence on the player, aside for the cosmetic change, a few "perks" (is this the word ?) would be added.

You WILL "recreate" epic battles as WORF359 (but with a different plot line), species 8472 VS borg, fed VS klingon vs romulans vs cardassians vs dominion.

At a later point, as the game progresses, i would require extra people for this, such as somone to design plots and concept ideas.
adding warp animation would be easily implemented, but of course it would require an animator, of which will probebly be added at a later time.

currect game design is, you'll be able to go to all quadrents (alpha, beta, gamma, delta). you will start at your race location (borg-delta, dominion-gamma, and such).
As consistent to the trek plot i would want it to be, you couldn't imagine sitting pressing the warp botton when you're a borg cube from the delta quadrent, and arriving to the alpha quadrent several years later.
everything is obviously faster, hence the need for slipstream/transwarp/wormholes.
years will go by minutes, to make it playable.

Slipstream/transwarp is almost completed btw, the AI is currently being worked on.

even though the game has not progressed far enough to start pitching ideas, i would love to hear some ideas on the core design.
(but making a game where you could do everything, as much as it would be great, is not realistic)

All you need to do is find a FPS engine, integrate it with the Trek world (LCARS interface, Trek weapons), and have a way to meld it into the already existing ship engine at appropriate times. Still, sequel potential!
