just a though, I seriously doubt the CPU has any effect on the visibility of the terrain... more likely the video card + video card drivers

doesn't work on my laptop (Athlon XP 1700, 512MB ram, Radeon graphics). I see the sky and the outline of the ground, but not the ground itself. My proc fan then spools up real fast (it's thinkin hard evidently). So it's doing something.

But nope, didn't work.

The reason it doesn't work is your code is a bit dodgy!

POINT returns a DWORD value. Depending on graphics card and resolution and depth, the value of black is different. You need to use RGBR, RGBG and RGBB to work out if it is black.

Here is modified code that works like a dream on my pc.

POINT is a fairly slow command and so using it twice in same command is a bad idea. Better to store in a variable (which has been defined as a DWORD), and then use the variable (I have used 'col').

YAY, it works now. Very impress with you terrain, I something like this once in qbasic, except I didn't make it animated, it simply took the chunk out of the land.

Very nice!

Can't wait for you to get some tank on there and start duking it out!

update-

added-
explosion effects(sound and animation)
can toggle with right mouse button which type of explosion you are using...

screenie-(zoomed in)

download- 1183 KBs
http://wakehosting.com/upload/files/iYWIcnM/SingedDust.zip

i will add tanks(or whatever) most likely over the weekend

BTW if you whish to make your own levels...just save over the "testlevel2" file with a 640*480 bmp, in the media/levels folder(keep the name the same)

all the black parts of the image will be treated as none existant...also anything above a certain point(20 pixels from the top...) is cut of so that no matter what image you put in there will be room for tanks

[edit] notice that instead of a just circle being cut out, it cuts out were the explosion has touched?

yay! i finally managed to make bigger explosions

changed-
you can now make a medium explosion...

link-
http://wakehosting.com/upload/files/miwxpcjG/SingedDust.zip

next Download will most likely have a tank in it
[edit] working on tanks now will probably have a download by sunday or monday...with tanks
[edit2]
preview of a fully souped up medium tank(it won't appear this way in the game...the blue color is where your custom color goes, the green color is the sheild which will be a "animated" color ...also the turret will be added in-game)

there are no tanks yet(so no ammo limit), but there will be different kinds of ammo and limits on all of them except for the most basic one(something like "small missile")

you will have unlimited of the most basic so you don't ever run out ...but everything else you have to pay for

thanks!

i'm pretty sure that bug is fixed now(i haven't uploaded the latest version...)
later today i should have a demo with a tank in it(that you control)
that can fire shells and all that...

BTW i'm going to remove the part in the begining when all the stuff flashes on the screen...what i'm doing is getting data from the images...instead i'll just have files with the data re-written...
