The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) was held 2 days ago, they were running several tournaments of various games (some hadn't even come out) and one of the groups that entered were called the 'Frag Dolls' (pictured below). As if them entering weren't odd enough in itself, but the lasses managed to win both the Halo 2 and Rainbow 6: Black Arrow tournaments. You can read about it on Bungie's Website.



Now this would be cool if they were just casual gamers that naturally kicked ass but what I believe has happened (and this has been confirmed by members of the group) is that Ubisoft have hired them to play the games (online and obviously at expo's like PAX) to "break the stereotype of a typical female gamer" and I presume draw more females into gaming, which would be awesome because as we all know, there's next to none out there. Unfortunately there's a lot of controversy of whether it's ethically right to do something like that, I personally don't have a problem with it, but a particular thread on the Penny Arcade forum shows a bit of anger from your average gamer: http://www.penny-arcade.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=74772 - The Frag Dolls reply several times throughout the post (they're names always end with 'FD' in case you're wondering who they are).

Now I'm just interested to hear other people's thoughts on this, mainly, do you think it will work? Will more of the opposite sex start playing games simply because the FD exist? I have my doubts, I think the problem stems from deeper down, females simply don't find games as fun as we do and it's not really a 'social' thing that drives them away from this sort of entertainment. You never know though. Also, I wonder how much they're being paid...

I think tons of girls love games, but mostly of the RPG type and not FPS. Personally, if they're as good as ppl claim, I wouldn't mind taking them down in a little UT tournament. A shame to blow so many of em away too, they're kinda cute.

There was this female pro-gamer around a while back, when Q3 was first released - she kicked ass too. I think it's the differences in playing styles, like they probably play really well in a team, whereas males tend to wander off and try to be a hero. Good luck to them, although they'll probably not hang around looking like April Lasagne for too long .

I personaly don´t mind girls playing games ´cos I´ll still kick ass at any game I touch, be it against boys or girls. Especialy fighting games.

I tend not to play a lot of games online because of a crappy connection and until about 2 months back a decrepit pc. However, I used to be very good with console multiplayer games, like GoldenEye and PerfectDark. It's a shame there were never any tournaments for them games around here

i host my own tournaments on halo on xbox we get 16 ppl into one horrible sweaty room and 3 of us (me and 2 friends) beat the crap out of the rest no matter the combination of ppl its so fun

The problem with Halo is that you need a very good connection for all players, if you dont want any lag (there are only a few servers that I use that are sufficiently fast).

Other games are much better in that department, which means that the networking system in Halo needs improving (which it wont be now).

Saw some Halo2 multiplayer footage last week, and it looks awesome, seems more like Unreal Tournament, like Assault modes etc (which is always great fun).

I think it's wrong to hire people to compete in something like that. Gaming is a casual sport, putting people in who are motivated by money is just wrong.

Oh it'll come out for the PC in time. They simply wouldn't pass up a market like that. But I'm sure Microsoft will squeeze every last bit of cash out of this before they allow it to be ported; the Xbox needs a savior after all.

P.S I'm trying to find an image on the internet of the episode where homer plays with a pen which reveals a naked woman when you turn it upside down.... Anyway, afterwards he grabs about a dozen of them and watches them all at the same time. You lot probably had a similar face to Homer's.

Last i heard from the local H2 multiplayer beta tester (and local halo and BF1942 server caretaker) is that the campaign mode won't be released on PC, well atleast anytime soon. My best guess is that we'll see a map pack for Halo Custom Edition, that'll be allt he multiplayer maps.
