Ok i have decided that using a textured plain will greatly improve the speed of my RPG. But i have no clue how to do it. How do you position right etc. Can anyone help me?

I assume you mean you want to use it in place of a sprite. If that right, what you do is texture the plain with the sprite, and make the black parts of the textured object transparent using the set object command. Then, you rotate the plain to face the camera.

If you want to, after that, just use the lock object on command to make it stay on the screen.

And as for the positioning - is that just trial and error? I'm about to start making my first hud, using textured plains as above, but I can't help thinking that getting everything in the right place is going to be tricky.

Yeah, as far as I know it is basically trial and error getting the a 3d HUD to show up in the right place. But (obviosly), you could do something like -

To get yourself in the ballpark. Of course, that would change some depending on how big your enviorment is, though. And it's also kind of tricky to get dials, indicators, et cetera, working with a 3D HUD.

Hmmm - unless anyone else has already done it, I think someone could make a bit of money by writing a drag and drop hud creator for Dark Basic. I'd buy it, for one!

Ric - this is an interesting post -

it's on the 3d HUDs, and some advanced math you can use with them.
