Hello!

Over at LLRGT we have decided to celebrate our continued strong (and growing!) community by holding a programming convention. Currently we are aiming about 1 year out for June or July of '05. The location will most likely be in PA (although this is subject to change). The convention will focus mostly on game programming techniques but not necessarily on one specific package. There is also a possibility of a European convention taking place at the same time and kind of sharing content between the two. This depends on the status of the European Administration staff but we will keep you posted.
Now we need your help! Aside from showing us how much interest there is, we need a certain interest level to be reached before this is no longer a “maybe”, we need you to tell us what kind of content you are interested in. We are trying to put together a series of seminars that will be of help to people. We have also thought of putting together a class for new programmers -this class would be in darkbasic, but we need to know how many users would be interested. Please post within this topic if you would like to be in that class also post any topics you would like to receive a seminar on. Lastly, we are looking for one person (must be 18+) to work with us on organizing a location for the convention. PM any of the llrgt staff if you are interested.

Thank you,
The LLRGT Administration

P.S. Please post any comments or thoughts over at the llrgt topic which can be found here:
http://www.dannywartnaby.co.uk/rgt/index.php?board=9;action=display;threadid=4636

Moderators if possible please sticky this topic.

in an effort to make both communities aware of each other and to share some harmony, Ill slap some glue around.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

I'd show up for that . (With a pulse gun to frag blitzers with... no, just kidding, really )

I'd be interested in seeing seminars on: anything hosted by TGC about future products, plugins for DBP, and the indie BASIC languages out there.

By that time I may or may not have an interesting game to show interested DBPers.

Pennsylvania... heard of it? It became a state just recently... yeah, 200 years ago.

Me thinks its time to merge our efforts here. Judging from my post, there is a lot of support from New Englanders and Mid-Atlanticers (That's PA, NJ, West/Virginia, Ohio I think too).

Well, whatever, keep in touch.

Those pesky Quakers settled there.

Well, I'm certainly interested, even if PA is not that close. It's all a matter of timing and finances.

A quick Notice: We are having a few troubles with the forum over at llrgt. I would be glad to review suggestions made in this thread for the time being rather than in the inaccesible thread on LLRGT.

Thanks for your patience,

Well, it's good to know that I wasn't being singled out.

My big excuse for heading East in June/July is Origins '05, a very big gaming convention held in Columbus, OH. I also have friends and family in Ohio. If I make the trouble to drive that far, PA is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. So, I'd love to see something planned for the weekend before or after Origins rather than during.

Any other role playing/war gamers that feel the same way?

[pause]

Origins '05 is from June 30th to July 3rd.

Never having planned a convention before, I have no idea if setting something up for the Independence Day weekend is better or worse. It could be seen as a slow time for meeting places or an incredibly busy one.

if it were the week(end) before this origins convention, it would rpobably be pretty empty. father's day isn't exactly a big vacation holiday.

OK enough of that damn DBP fanboy banner. i'm NOT a DBP fanboy in any way. i haven't used DBP in over a year, and i don't really plan on using it again.

The timing on the last one wasn't too good. I couldn't stay both days because we like celebrating father's day at home with the family .

Might be a good idea to definitly schedule the convention on a weekend. Since I live in Ohio, the location of PA sounds good enough for me.

Pennsylvania means Penn's woods.
Penn's Dad gave him land so he wouldn't be an embarresment. He didn't show the King proper respect...but the King owed his dad money, so he thought that he may as well cut him some slack. Penn named a bunch of the streets after plants.

Ozzy rules.

Hi Mom! Hi Dad How are you? Doing good? That's good... Uh, listen, any chance that you could drive me to a programming convention? Where is it? Oh, it's in pennsylvania... Uhm, right... heh, no I'm not kidding...

The location has been decided as Minnesota due to the logistics of organizing an event. We are currently planning on a facility which has projectors, smartboards, T3 line as well as the classic whiteboard and chalkboard.

But... the view! The view!

Minn is probably out of reach for me. There's a slim chance I could make it... a very slim chance. Oh well... I'll be following developments with interest nevertheless

Ahh, that's too bad. I think Minnesota will be too far for me to make it. You'd think that they'd have it more eastward due to the large amount of people who live over here but whatever.

yes but due to organization logistics it wouldn't be feasible to host it too far from an llrgt staff member. (In this case myself)

Please visit this thread and vote if your going to come.

Wow - Minnetonka Minnesota is ten miles away from the buildings in my DarkBasic "Town Hall Toaster" Game, which is in downtown Minneapolis, MN

Being that the convention is this close to me, I will have no excuse ... I must go!

well.. there's 14 already and out of that about 10 who *are* coming.. and that doesn't include people whome ash knows about that we do not.. nor the people who will come just out of curiosity who live in minneapolis/saint paul.. which would probably be a few dozen more

We are looking for teachers still.

Currently we have:
basic modelling (maybe animation)
code structure
introduction to programming (I expect to have a few people there whom havn't coded before)

If you have a subject you think would be interesting please either PM me on the llrgt forums or reply in this thread or its llrgt companion thread.

Thank you,

Ok just to let everyone know we have hit a slight speedbump. I'm trying to find a sponsor at the moment because we need a liability insurance setup in the amount of $1,000,000 . Should only add about 500$ overall to the entire cost of the convention. If you know of any company which would be willing to sponsor us please get in contact with me or post here Currently we are trying to talk with Nvidia.
