Truespace 3, I dunno where to get it though, It was free on a demo disk for me, search around the internet maybe someone uploaded it. It doesnt save in x or 3ds format though, so use lithunwrap to convert the files.

STOP SPAMMING THE FRIGIN BOARDS. YOUVE BEEN POSTING THIS ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I am really getting a huge disliking for you. I would be very pleased if you were banned for supporting this.

Use milkshape- all the way. Rhino 3d is also an excellent modeller, just for a little more money. Not that hard on the wallet (maybe) - and there is a trial version.

For the kind of modelling you do for a game, MAX is much overkill. A copy of VIZ from R3+ would probably do it. But Milkshape is basically the game-needed features and a cheaper price tag, so if you are not a pirate, get that.

i didnt post it all over the place.. i only posted it on like 1 other topic jeez have a cow. you know not everyone has dollars coming out of there butt like some people. I think file sharing is ok there are plenty of rich snobs with money to support the companies who develope these products.. besides its your opinion and you shouldnt discriminate so much for it.

I used OpenFX at first. But when I got .x files out of it the faces weren't always there, and you had to turn it round etc...

Well, I know for a fact that TrueSpace 1.0 is freeware, but it's pretty useless and crashes all the time.

Which ones will open .X files (no pun intended). I think I might've been doing something wrong but JTEdit wouldn't open .X files for me. Is Milkshape that good? How much is Rhino 3D? Please pardon my n3wbn3ss.

I like anim8or, I find it really easy to use and animate with. Lancewrath, you don't know how to animate? Build several objects in Object mode, build a bone figure in Figure mode and add the objects to the bones, or set the bones to deform an object. Then set a bone rotation keyframe sequence in Sequence mode, then put all your objects into a scene in Scene mode. Then you can move them with keyframes, paths etc, do limb rotations, append pre-animated sequences, etc. There is a button for inverse kinematics, but it hasn't been implemented yet. I managed a big stompy robot shooting lasers over a bump-mapped terrain in hardly any time after reading the tutorials on the site (www.anim8or.com). And it's FREE. And it exports nicely enough for me (.3ds). Although it doesn't export animations, only limb structures.

Murp,

Re JEdit, what happened when you tried to open a .x file? (I'm assuming that something happen while loading, and it was not the simple case of not setting the file type in the open dialog to "DirectX (*.x)..." to list .x files.) Could you send me (john@jtgame.com) an offending file (with any textures needed)? JTEdit most definitely should be able to open .x files.

I agree with Matigus that 3D Canvas is an excellent package, especially for the price (pro version: $69, LP version (game devel) $35).

Yeah, but the output format is only usable in games that have licensed the format...

I know of no application that can convert these models to another, more useful format

yeah about 3d studio max, do know how to make good looking hair, like Final Fantasy 10 style hair using 3d studio max, I've made a model with 3d studio max 5 but not the hair(it's pretty hard for me), and also how the hell do I convert to .x format with 3d studio max 5 (note-I still haven't found a solution yet--->>>to those who read my ancient post eons ago<<<---), I don't see 3d s max as being bad, isn't it good to make high poly models(for a game you spend loads of time making.)

I guess you can use the Quake III plugin to convert to md3 format and then convert that to a common format like 3ds or something, but it seems like there must be something in the liscencing forbidding you to do that. The download is... uh... go to the main page and click where it says download available.

yeah, thanks peoples, I got around the converting problem, found out I had to export to save in 3ds format. (just my own stupidity). And about making cool looking hair, I can't find a tutorial for it. (if anyone can tell me .)

If your going for realist hair I hope you got the momery for it. The way I've seen it done to get desent hair for less ploygons is to use textures acordingly.

lmao @ Rich ... i'd sure love to be compatible with a shipping firm
or is that Freight as in only the ships, not the shipping ... hmm lol

as for JEdit, i've had not problems on my version of XP.
However i have XP Pro SP1 - so perhaps it could be the fact of not updating. If not then i'm a little unsure, sometimes incompatibilities stem from Updating to XP rather than Upgrading to XP...

So you update say 98 -> XP and it still carries the bugs that 98 had, whereas the upgrade 98 -> XP it installs XP only.

I found a hair plugin(heard from friend), called shag hair, only problem is it's on a impossible price of $450, something I can't afford right now. need another solution, I might just use a texture like arrow and other peeps said.

If you don't want to have to buy 450$ plugins, don't buy 4500$ softwares then.
