I have read some past posts that say that you can make a windowed program with DBC, but so far, I have been unable to do so.

I have tried "set window on" (which gives an error) and I have made an executable with a "Setup.ini" file in the same directory with the windowmode=1 lines.

I do not have any "enhancements", will DarkBasic Classic do windows?

Thanks

Making a cool sig is just too much pressure for me right now.

Radio Check, unfortunatly, without the Enhancement pack, you cannot use Windows in DBC.

But, if you update to 1.13 ( and haven't already ) then you can get the enhancement commands for a trial period of 30 days.

If you like them, then go buy them ( nice and cheap, and well worth it in my opinion ).

The setup.ini file method is ( when using Set Window On with the enhancement pack ) to stop the app from going full screen, then into windowed mode (which looks horrid ).

Jess.

erm, even without the enhancement you have :
SET WINDOW ON
SET WINDOW OFF
SET WINDOW SIZE
SET WINDOW TITLE
...

Perhaps my problem is that I have an "Educator's" copy?

I downloaded the 1.13 enhancement and now when I open DBC I get a message that says "You need a valid CD".

The screen commands seem to work now, but the help file is not changed... none of the "set window..." commands show up in the index.

Making a cool sig is just too much pressure for me right now.

There is another download which contains the updated help files(they're v110, but it doesn't really matter).

*ACTUALLY USEFUL NOTE, THIS IS NEW FOR ME*

I do Direct3D programming, and I know that to use Set Window On, your computer must be able to create a D3DDevice in Windowed mode. First, try changing your desktop screen res before starting the program (make it something low, USE 16 BIT OR 32 BIT ONLY)

Hell, one of my computers couldn't create a D3DDevice at 640x480x16. It could do 800x600x32, but not 640x48x16 (note: the mentioned computer is currently busy marinating with the flies in the tip )

* USE A DIFFERENT COMPUTER *

and fix your DarkBasic, per JessTicular's suggestion.

Whatever.

Thanks everyone.

I finally got everything working. I had to set my video to 16bit color after I found the "set window" commands in the help file, they were not where I expected them to be.

I probably need to do some error handling stuff to choose resolutions and depth, then I can set my system where ever I want it...
