I think bringing out a box set of this now is a bit stupid really. I mean episode 3 is not far away and what will they do then.....Bring out the lot in a new boxset!! Everyone that bought the first one will have to buy the new boxset and more money spent where it didn't need to be.

My advice for anyone going to buy the starwars trilogy dvd boxset, wait until episode 3 and then get the lot!

My lodger just bought it. So I'm covered both ways. Will be good on my 36" widescreen TV with Dolby Digital, but will probably get a projector in the new year probably (with 100"+ screen), and that should totally rock with Star Wars. Tops....

Cheers

I am 99% probably lying in bed right now... so don't blame me for crappy typing

what does the boxed set of Books 4,5, and 6 have to do with books 1,2, and 3 being released at some later point?

yes it is the original 3 on DVD

considering the first three are the only good ones i'll have to go and pick it up!

i would never want to get 1,2, and 3 in the same set as the original ones...

that would taint them

Quote: "Everyone that bought the first one will have to buy the new boxset and more money spent where it didn't need to be"

WTF!?!?!? buy this now...and then if you want the latest three then buy the trilogy set that will come out of 1,2, and 3

it is not stupid, you have much to learn my young padawan...

LOL. And Giles, the original 3 movies from the late 70's/early 80's are referred to as Books IV,V, and VI.

Some of the sound on Star Wars Episode 4 is rather poor - hopefully the other 3 CD's will be better.

The DVD boxset is of the "special" versions of IV, V, and VI. It's got added CG footage only a George Lucas could love, including, I've been told, a breakdancing Ewok.

They've already released a boxset of the special edition versions of the original three episodes, about 4 years ago (I know, because I own it. ). I always thought this boxset was supposed to be the very original 3, without any CG or 'digital enhancing' - mainly because a lot of people thought a CG Jabba the Hutt looked like shit... then again, they did use him in again Episode 1.

And yeah, the point of releasing this is so everyone gets back into Star Wars and so when Episode 3 is released, they've already re-established their fanbase and people will be waiting to see it.

I wish that were the case, but George Lucas said himself that if people want the original 3 movies, they'll have to get ahold of it on VHS. He will not be releasing then non-CGI enhanced originals.

I've got the very original Star Wars VHS, but I only have Episodes 5 & 6 (originals) taped from TV.

I have the Original Star Wars set but with enhanced 3D sound, which I think is the best set.

Edit: Oh, and the explosions were souped up a bit.........I think.

Well i agree that IV V VI are the best ones, don't get me wrong but even if I II and III are no way as good as the IV V and VI it just doesn't seem right to take them out of the saga completely!

Well. I think completely diferently to you guys.
I thought Star Wars 4, 5 and 6 was a bunch of dated hyped up crap. I liked Episode 1 though. Episode 2 on the other hand, was complete and utter sh*t. Anakin couldn´t act his way out of a paper bag.
Why do you guys prefer the originals though? None of them could act thier way out of a paper bag!(Exdluding of course Harisen(sp?) Ford) And those hairstyles could never have been fashonable.

Very good acting in IV, V & VI - I & II are bad either.

episode I was too much of a kids movie

they just haaad to put jar-jar in there...he is a complete and utter idiot

episode 2 was OK....but it was still too computer generated...

Quote: "Why do you guys prefer the originals though?"

well i don't really think tha acting was THAT bad

but mainly because they actually look more realistic then the new ones...(also the plot is a bit better then the new ones)...they used models for all the spaceships so they look MUCH more realistic

but like in episode one....the entire thing was waaaayyyyy too shiny

1 & 2 are so unbelievably bad, 95% of the films are CG, no wonder the acting is so poor if they do all their acting in front of big blue screens. Only good thing in 2 was the yoda fight.
Hope George listens to public opinion and makes 3 a proper movie. If I wanted to see a CG movie I'd watch Toy Story/Bugs life etc, etc

1 more thing - I realy, realy, realy hope JaJa Binks gets killed in the opening sequences of episode 3.

Episode 3 should have a yoda fight, so should 4, and 5, and a remake of six with a yoda fight, then a yoda fight box set, then remake them all with yoda fights, then make some Star Trek films with a yoda fight. Or maybe a yoda vs kirk fight.

I've got little love for the newer SW films. I mean, a really tense moment in ep.4, when Luke and Leia have to swing across the gap - wooo, very daring and tense. Then compare that with Anakin's aerobatics in ep.2 - that's a good way to kill a movie, put rediculous rubbish in the first 50 minutes. The only thing likable about the new films was Boba (sp?) and Jango Fett (they should really have their own movie, no?) - and Natalie Portman.

God that was crap. A Jedi should be good but not superman. Ok. I get what you guys mean by more realistic. They do have way too much CG in the latest ones. But as far as stand alone movies I liked the ep 1 the best (despite Anakin and the kids apeal). Ep 3 should be good. It seems a bit darker and more serious than the rest.(Though Anakin´s hair style is a bit dodgy)

I agree, that "I killed them... slaughtered them like animals" scene was the one that stood out in my mind as poor acting.

I've been told that they changed a critical part in the movie concerning Han Solo. They delayed his blaster shot in the cantina a half second so that he does not fire first. Basically changing him from a pirate/smuggler that he is to some slightly nicer guy. If so, they're pigs for doing it. Revisionist b4st4rds.

I don't think he ever fired first, Greeto shot first and missed so Han killed him. In the Special Edition version, the most notable difference in that scene is that it's easier to see the shots bounce off the walls, I don't believe any change was made in reguards to who fired first though.

Later today I'll go and check though because as I previously mentioned, I own both the original VHS and Special Edition VHS

They did change that. If you check your old VHS it's only a single blaster and there's not a series of retarded camera shifts as there are in the remastered special edition versions.

I've got an odd version of it, the old VHS collection is slowing getting lost, and all we have is this edited version. It came out between the classic and Special Edition. They did some quick fixes, took the Jabba that looks like a man out of Episode I, made the orange smudge under the sand speeder more of a dull reddish-brown, and a couple other things...oh yeah coated it with THX too.
