There is a command to show your FPS, and also one to benchmark.

I never really got annoyed at the loading times, not when I compare them to Battlefield (which I play a lot of) - I thought they were quite reasonable.

It varies hugely depending on the PC.

Doom 3 takes between 5-10 seconds to load on my new PC, nearly a minute on my old one.

Bah, Van B. You can't get annoyed with battlefield loading times, purely because of the loading music, which always gets me hyped for some nazi obliteration.

My laptop took over a minute to load, and a good 30 seconds on my AMD 3000+ machine

I am now running doom 3 on high quality with my comp ... how weird. (Ya it runs nice on my comp)

AMD athlon 2000+
Radeon 9000 Pro
1024 mb ram
Windows XP

so in other words you dont need a killer PC and Video card to play it nicely.

Oh and I fixed my problem. It was just my Driver for my video card wasnt up to date some doom 3 wasnt starting. Other than that loading time is about 20-30 seconds.

It only takes me about a minute. But the games too dark, can't see anything.

That's why we have gamma controls .

I know what you mean though, for me it's not necesserily that it's dark - it's the sameyness of everything. I mean, why can't really bright lights be scary too? - I mean a brightly lit operating room with partially autopsied corpses crawling slowly towards you, that would freak me out!, and not a flickering light or pitch black corridor in sight .

It's gotten to the point with me that I hardly play it - I am busy, but when all a game has is freights all the way through it and no rewards, it get's real tiresome. I haven't found anything cool in ages, no new weapons or monsters for about 5 levels or something, I know I'll get more from HL2 and I've only seen videos of that.

are we talking about loading the game, or loading between levels?
as far as performance, I run it on high detail without a problem. Think i'll go try ultra, just for fun.

wow, your pcs are far more better than mine!

I play ad low quality, shadows on, specular off, anitalising off, high quality particles on, bump map on, screen res: 800x600

It runs VERY smooth! (thank god) but once I set screen mode to 1024x768 or specular to on, It swap like !!
loading time for me is about 1 - 1.5 minutes

I have:
P4 2000mhz
256 ddr
GeForce 4 MX420 64mb
and Win XP

(I want ATI Radeon X800XT pro, anyone here have it, or have plans on buying it??)

I am not cool anymore... or am I?
