I doubt we shall call them invites. I think it's just a trick to get more users into it.
If you only had to join, it would be nothing special. But with the invite-system, people may think it's a privilege to get it. When they have it, it means to them that they have something special, that not everybody can have.


The beta trick
is not dum : people think they can do something about it, so they are confident

Yes I'm using Yahoo on my internet activity. But my private email (the one I only give to close friends) is somewhere else, we I have special options that are really usefull, that yahoo, hotmail, gmail can't offer.

Of course I used Yahoo because of the big space. As an official address I thought it was really good.

But my private email sends me an sms at every email, for free. It has much space on it and automatically sends mails from certain users to special folders.
