I've been wondering whats happened to Robot Wars since I left for HK in early 2003. So I've been doing a bit of net research. What do I discover? It seems that in my absence it went from BBC 2 to Channel 5. Then Channel 5 cancelled it and so the series appears to have been killed off.

I CANNOT BELIEVE IT.

This is a great TV series. On BBC 2 it had huge ratings.

I'm extremely gutted.

It was in decline on BBC2, and I dont think his controllingness wanted to fork out money for it - much like The Simpsons (C4 in November), Sliders etc etc

I watched it for a few series - it got rather boring after a while though.

Whatever, just caused Razor is from Bournemouth (I think it came to my school)

The best ever bit was when Cassius got flipped and they were like "Oh! The favourite's been flipped! Well we knew it had bad ground clearanc- HOLY CRAP!!"

And it flipped itself back over with it's arm but it actually jumped clean into the air. Now they pretty much all self-right but then it was amazing.

Viewing figures were still extremely solid though. It was a very popular show. And a classic example of brilliant British eccentric engineering. Not to start a big nationality clash but no surprise that in the world championships the British teams always took apart our friends from the States, Germany, the low countries, etc.

When it comes to eccentricity, we're world leaders.

In my opinion it was spoilt by the talking, they should have just left 6+ robots in a ring for the show length where they could fight to the death.

During the last 15 minutes the house robots should have been allowed to move in

Ya, that was a great show. My favorite was gemini, neat idea, but of course, they sucked big time . The american one was too much like wrestling, and the host kept talking about the robots like they were alive

That is the robot wars from the UK. I can't say I enjoy it, personally it's quite boring. I mean it's just robots.

Yeah, but it is the people behind the controls that design the robots and control them in the arena. That is the cool part. I always dreamed of making a robot to compete in robot wars, my friend and I designed one in high school for fun. Never got around to making it though...

I catch episodes of robot wars on TechTV here in the US sometimes, usually pretty late at night though...

Poor Craig, I hope the BBC stump up for another series of Red Dwarf, a decent one this time .

For you hardware junkies, there's always Scrap Heap - hosted by Crighton no less - the presenters seem far more genuine and it has a much less scripted feel to it.

Next they'll get the actor who played Kat to host some sort of dog related killing machine fighting arena

Robot Wars was always fun.
Razor kicked butt every time, it was just such an awesome robot

From the house robots, I like Sir Kill-Alot the best He was so good with his big body, and glareing eyes ... and stuff...

I remember seeing "Robot Wars eXtreme" at one stage, and that was just plaing pathetic, and since then I think things just went down hill

I hope that´s true but I doubt it. I mean they were supose to start actual filming Jst after the filming of the first Tomb Raider movie. It would be cool if they were still going to do it though.

I always thought Robot Wars was funny as well. Theres definitely something humourous in people working for months in their garage only to have their pride and joy utterly destroyed inside of 3 minutes.
