I'm having some trouble getting the program to start in windowed mode. It first goes to fullscreen, then switches res then goes to windowed mode. It takes forever.

Can someone help?

That was not the problem.
I know how to go into windowed mode.
When you run it as an executible or in dark edit it goes into fullscreen mode first then windowed.

oh.....

well i dont know if you can do it on other ways....
i think the only way is that it first be fullscreen and then windowed.

i dont know if you can start it up in windowed without it going to fullscreen.

I think you can because the autorun for the Darkbasic cd looked like it was made in Darkbasic. It went right into window, and no screen switching. It probably was in darkbasic.

Create a file in your default DarkBasic directory called SETUP.INI and put these two lines in it:

[SETTINGS]
windowmode=1

Save it, then run DarkBasic. Any program you run from that point on will go directly to a windowed mode and avoid the full screen switch entirely. Remember to still set your window properties, if desired, this technique just skips the full screen step. Also, make sure to inlude the SETUP.INI file you created with any executables you compile to keep the direct window mode active when running your program outside of the editor.

Then either something is wrong or it isn't being entered correctly. Without this option it takes my system about 1.5-2 seconds to switch to windowed mode. With it, the result is almost instantaneous.

Sorry I did it wrong, it workes.

But now it asks for the dark basic cd when I run my program.
It will let me continue without the cd in though.

Are you syncing your program straight away when switching!
Because I was pissed off how long it took until i synced it and then it took just over a second. Just a suggestion.

I tried putting the sync command after the set window on, but it didn't help. The whole setup.ini file stuff is working now. I just popped in the db cd when it asked, and now it never asks anymore, even without the cd.

Neojacob,
That's because there is a 500 compile limit on DBC. Once you compile that many times, it asks for the CD to make sure you don't have a pirated copy

Jess.
