Hi,

I want to create a background picture and save it to a .bmp file so I create a plain and texture it with my picture.

Can anyone tell me what the best software to use to create a picture and save it to a .bmp format

photo shop, paintshop pro, paint (the one that comes with windows) basicly anything that you can get your hands on.

anyone can be a hero, but a soldier can be a hero five minuets longer....

I've always used MS Paint for my artwork and I came 8th in last year's compo. Graphics mean nothing.

Make sure you're game is fun with cubes (or squares if it's 2D) - then worry about graphics.

What I would like to do is to load a .bmp and then load another smaller .bmp on top of that.

I don't think you can do that in MS Paint.

You can. You just need to load the small bitmap first and copy it to the clipboard, then load the big bitmap and paste the small one onto it.

A decent free image editor is gimp http://www.gimp.org/windows/
