Is it just me, or does when ANYBODY downloads CodeKEEPER it says stuff like "missing files" or have problems with running the program? Does anybody have a working copy they could post a link to so that I could use this windows-based alternative to DBC?

I downloaded mine from the Showcase, it locked up a couple times when I tried to play around with the advanced features (project tools, extended syntax, etc.). i personally like to use DarkEdit. There are other editors available:

DBC/DBPro IDE(bothways coompatible ide)-- http://www.levelmaker3d.co.uk

BrainEd--http://twinno.com/brainedpro/index.htm (right now supports 3drad, Blitz, Torque, and DBPro, next release [1.05] will have DBC compiling support)

CrimsonEditor--http://www.crimsoneditor.com/ (mostly for Java, C/C++ and the like, but a good text editor if you don't mind not having compiling options)

Why do you prefer DarkEdit over CodeKEEPER? Just curious, because I use Darkedit as my default .dba compiler, and I was wondering if CodeKEEPER's variable viewer system was any help at all. I think it has a list of all of the variables you use in your programs, and that would help a lot when I'm programming.

CodeKEEPER is decent. I use it all the time... But it does have bugs, and the author seems to have gone... somewhere http://www.dannywartnaby.co.uk.

They're just elementary bugs that need ironing out - but where's the damn author when you need him??

(Note: I think CodeKEEPER is a VB6 program, and you probably (and everyone else) don't have the Visual Basic system files. Get 'em http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7B9BA261-7A9C-43E7-9117-F673077FFB3C&displaylang=en there.)

For example, the following code (replace 'Chiller' with any font you like, it doesn't matter):

Normal DarkBasic:

Normal DarkBASIC run from CodeKEEPER:

But it's a brilliant tool.
That's why I use it.

I just use DarkEdit because I haven't had any problems with it. It keeps track of functions, which is nice, and has extended syntax for GLOBAL variables, which is the only thing I need added to DBC besides types, I've just stayed away from types with DarkEdit because it's fooling around with arrays. You can get away with the same thing by making all your arrays a string and converting as necessary.
