Hi there.

This started off as my competition entry but it has deviated from the original (Snake) to the point where I’m not sure if it will be acceptable.

Anyway here’s the score. You are SilverfishX or just X as his friends call him. You have been contracted by an alien race to save their children from some evil captors.

At the start of the level you are transported to an alien landscape via the gift of the dodgy vortex you see in the picture below.

You then have to go and rescue the alien children which are known as Rogletts. They are all contained within devices known as RogTraps one of which is shown below. The pic also includes a flying creature called Nosebeast, you don’t want to mess with him.

The way to release Rogletts is to run over a button which will be placed somewhere within one of a number of hazards. The hazards are the big deviation from the snake idea and are more like a platform game.
The pic below shows one of the hazards, it is known as the toxic pool.

The little purplish thing on the ground just beside the Rogletts is a RogCharmer. You carry this so that when you release Rogletts they will follow you. You can set this down to tackle one of the hazards and your Rogletts will wait patiently beside it, but its energy gradually depletes so if you don’t get back and pick it up before the energy reaches zero your Rogletts will wander off.
Here is another hazard called the Zong tree.

Initially you will not be able to climb the zong tree as you cannot jump high enough but as you collect more Rogletts Your R.I.M.P level will go up and you will be able to jump higher, run faster and what have you. R.I.M.P is Rogletts Induced Mystic Power and is displayed via the R.I.M.P Stone located at the bottom of the screen. As your R.I.M.P. increases the stone will become increasingly red.

Here is another bad guy. This one is a snagglepod and will stab you with his deadly spines at the drop of a hat.

The blue balls coming out of the ground are your source of energy, you just run over the ones that fall to earth to pick them up.

Here’s a better view of the toxic pool with Nosebeast in action.

That’s about all I can think of to mention other than that I haven’t put that many captive Rogletts in the level yet so its not to hard to avoid them at present.

Anyway let me know what you think chaps

Certainly more Pikmin like than Snake like. Even if you don't submit it to the contest, I'd like to see it finished. It's pretty original as game ideas go around here.

Thanks for the comments chaps.

I was just looking at the pics I already posted and I’m noticing I have gone out of my way to make the game look as unsnake as possible in them. It's a bit more snakey than it looks there but zircher has got me, I am indeed a game cube fanatic.

Don’t know if I will have a demo ready before the end of the compo but I will post more screen shots of any significant additions.

Any suggestions you might have, feel free to voice them.

suggestion: make sure you don't turn the silverfish into a wise cracking jive talkin silverfish with attitude that skates around cutting enemies with his powerblade to save some hot silverfish girl from teh evil clutches of razzy, an evil being who is stiff and hates silverfish with attitude. Seriously if you make it anything like a game that would be titled EXTREME silverfish i will have to kill you. pirate's honor.

Looks great. Honestly I think this is the first time I have ever seen a silver fish as a main character in a game (or for that matter, anywhere in a game). Unfortunetely, I must admit, that we tend to have to exterminate these little critters in real life as they like our wood a little too much. Great job on the game!

Current Projects: Verious things right now. Lots of utils for game making. Hopefully something solid soon.

Thanks for all your feedback chaps. Here’s the progress since last post.

I wanted to have a mostly 2d maze in the main field where the game starts but I have tried many different ways and found that nothing quite looks right. The shot below shows what it currently looks like but I’m not sure about it still.
I am really looking for honest opinions here so be as critical as you like.

The snakeyness is starting to come together now as you can see in the shot below. The rogletts will follow you everywhere.
If you jump they will each jump at the point that you jumped at and what have you. I am quite enjoying that element now as I used to get a lot of fun out of just moving around with a huge tail in original snake and now I can do figure of eight and such like.

When you get about 12 or 13 rogletts it gets very tricky to do anything as they are constantly under your feet
but you have the rog charmer at your disposal if you feel the need to get away from them. The charge in the rog charmer
will run out in one minute, causing the rogletts to desert and causing your alien employers to put a black mark against
your name. Three black marks and your out on your ear, they will probably hire a cyberfrog or some such thing to pick
up the quest where you failed.

This shot shows what is currently my favourite area in the game. It is known as The Void but as the draw distance is so close
to make it run on my work machine, the void itself is not terribly visible.

[IMG]http://tinypic.com/ekk0h[/IMG

The maze here is much too big to negotiate in one minute so you must take your rogletts with you at least part of the
way.

This shot shows me in the maze above the void. The only thing that damages rogletts is when you walk on them and then they will draw energy from you to recover. As you can see, two of the rogletts have received a mild trampling, the two with the little halo's. The little yellow balls are the energy being sucked out of Mr. Silverfish.
By the way the creature hovering in the top right of the screen is known as a poegon (Pronounced Poe As In edger alan and gon as in gone home). They are big virtually weightless bags and are to air what fish are to water. He has no intelligence yet so he just hovers there mooing continuously.

This final shot was supposed to show some rogletts hanging in the air awaiting my next move but The great Nosebeast killed me while i was trying to hit print screen. I had gravity on the rogletts but it was not as much fun as having them hovering around when your trying to jump between slippery platforms.

That’s about it for now chaps, sorry if this post is a bit muddled as I am trying to do this in work without the boss man catching me. Do please let me know what you think of the fire field thing at the top as I am still undecided about it.

Cheers chaps.

every time i think of this, i really want to play it.
i personally really like it (as i said before).
it looks so original, and the colors are so un-used-by-other-people.
and the fire field looks awesome...i don't even know how you did that!
impressed again,

Hi there chaps.
My computer disintegrated due to some evil ad ware or virus on Saturday night so I was not able to submit my game for the competition. I reinstalled and tried to use a backup but then i had a weird issue with the editor opening the wrong file (Going to post this on dbpro board).

The backup is only a few days old so when I get that version back into the state the compo entry was in I will put it on my own website for those who are interested.

Despite the disastrous ending this has been a most enjoyable experience and I have learned a lot. The most important lesson learned being don’t leave submitting your game until the last day of the compo.:0)

Thanks for all the nice comments chaps. I will post a link for the demo version of the game as soon as possible.

It certainly does look original. My suggestion is to add shadows (blob shadows are enough) to the character and maybe some other things. That would make the game look better.
