PS: I Know u woulnd;t want to.. its a showy off thing.. like owning a car than can do 250mph.. YOU CAN NEVER DO THAT ON THE M25!!!! Lol
"

Now if you read that you may realise that I already knew it wasn't the point!! Lol... It just sounded like one of those pointless specs that you'll never need. Like advertising "THIS MINI WORKS GREAT ON MARS!! But you cant wear a spacesuit as you'd be too bug and the mini is not pressurised..."

I know you weren't.. And I never underestimated them. Quite the opposite. I have always heard and believed they were better than PC's. I just wanted to hear that from someone who actually owned one!! Once I have a job, I may get myself a nice little Mac... Hmm.. Money.. So when i get a job I wan a Mac, a car, to pay off my £12K (and rising) of student debt, find somewhere to live that isn;t with my parents and still have enough left over to not want to kill myself.. Lol

Main thing thats stopping me is the fact that there are few games around (although it does seem to be picking up slightly), and I here its a real pain to program for (which is the main reason I want a computer - not into video editing or graphics).

The main downside to a PC is the Intel/AMD processor - the most inefficent processor around.

If only Acorn had done better, we might all be using the great StrongARM processor (now called something else)...

TCA - I wouldn't really rely on a Mac for games, it's capable, but I have my PC for that and you're always going to get the best games on the PC first. It is very interesting though that more and more big titles are finding their way onto the Mac (Call of Duty being a good example as the demo CD is sat infront of me). As for programming I think Apple are actually (finally!) one step ahead of Microsoft here - all versions of OS X now ship with the Xcode Tools which is a complete and very advanced development system, with some funky features such as multiple-client compiling (imagine passing out your code to a server-farm to have it compile for you!), a full Interface Builder (like the GUI part of VB I guess), AppleScript (so you don't have to get all C++ if you just want to hack out a quick program), very good debugging and profiling support (real-time modify on the fly stuff) and Gigs of documentation and sample code. It all comes free with OS X "Panther" (the current release build).

So for that, I think you'd be more than well catered for! Macs certainly aren't cheap (in comparison to PCs), but they are superb machines these days - definitely not something I would have said a few years ago!

Cheers,

Rich

OK OK OK gosh i started this forum yesterday and it has 2 poages !?!?!?!?!?!?! Guys I asked the question and got the answer. Though Dbpro on Linux would be useful it doesn't really matter that much i have windows at home and this was for something on a different computer system. I cant believe that my little question got like what 3 major people talking on it! Also to the person who said i should look in the general section, i'm sorry but i just dont hang out in that forum. Anyway i've already moved on as of yesterday and my newest question that I posed in a forum doesn't even have anything to do with Dbpro!(lol) anyway guys thanx for giving me something to read but you can stop posting here if you wan't. Anyone who really want's to post in one of my things should go to the Cshop forum and tell me how to use the fabmaker!
Cheers

code spinneker - your thread has taken on a far more interesting turn than it originally was hence the continuation of it.

I used Linux as my desktop OS for the last 2 weeks. At the start of that period, I thought it was absolutely fantastic. It used much less memory then Windows after a clean boot and I was still able to play all my favourite games, Quake, Doom3 (this ran MUCH slower then the Win32 version though), Enemy Territory, UT2004 etc.

However, I soon realised that Linux is still at a disadvantage to Windows, because you can't pick it up and use it from the get go. For instance, for every LAN party my friends and I have, we make a short video to go with it. I was given the videos on a CD, so I put them in my CD drive, mounted it and I couldn't play them. Understandable I guess, because they were encoded in WMV format, MS stuff. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I never found a way to play them.

I am back on Windows again now, due to things like that and the fact that I can't program in Linux. The last reason is, I can't stand having two operating systems on my PC. It has to been one or the other for me.
