 well drizzt wasnt at the battle of the shallows, he went up to kill the giants right, then at night time he saw withegroo's tower fall with a dwarf figure wearing bruenor's helmet fall, then he cut sick thinkin that his friend king breunor died (bruenor already went unconcious earlier and dagnabbit grabbed his helm and went atop the tower to command the dwarven defenders. anyway he sees him fall when teh tower got knocked over by the giants, so he cuts sick and kills most of them and his cat the others, then when he finishes running from teh giants and hiding for a day, he returns to the shallows to find nothing but dead bodies and the helmet of bruenor among the rubble, this pisses him off mroe cause he doesnt know if his friends (and love interest) survived, and he believes they wouldnt have cause he doesnt find any trace of escape. Now the group of people did escape with the unconcious king when some backup arrived and tricke dthe orc hordes and then pummelled them, so after all that what pisses me off is the fact that drizzt has a big cry and goes on a rampage against the orcs (although the fighting is cool) he keeps crying and saying that he isnt going to return to mithral hall to see if his friends survived or not caus ehe is too much of a pussy to hear that they didn't, I'm constantly screamign at this book tellign him to go there so he can save keeper's dale but no this pussy arse drow cant do it! arrggh! btu i guess he gets to mithral hall if its in the game, although ten bucks says the trolls and orcs have overrun it and regis had to pull his forces out. god damn im annoyed now. im gona finish teh book. and maybe add the whole series as a campaign in my hq game. yes. good.

Yeah, Drizzt Does go back to mithril hall to fight one of the orc leaders with a female elf who had her lover killed by the same orc.  He does see that the dwarves are still fighting though, but he doesn't see Wulfgar, Cattie-Brie, Regis, or Bruenor.  They're still alive though, and with the help of a little gnome, they set off quite the explosion underneath a bunch of giants with catapults.  And Bruenor even joins the fray again (with the help of a little persuasion from Regis and his ruby pendant) and it's gotta be the most dramatic moment I read in the whole book.  But Drizzt doesn't see this, and he retreats with the female elf back to the mountains when they're overwhelmed by the orc army.

You'd be smart not to call Drizzt a pussy.  Did you read the other books?  From Icewind Dale to The Hunters Blades?  If you did, you'd realise the guy has more emotional scars than anyone else, and several times his past has almost gotten his friends killed, and he doesn't want them to die because of that.  They are also his only true friends on all of Faerun too.  I'm pretty sure you'd go into the same denial as Drizzt if you were in his shoes. 

 yeah i had read that bit, i was up to just after the explosion when i first saw teh post, just finished the book then. and i'm annoyed, he goes the whole book without checking in to see if his freinds are ok. stupid drow. i hate him and his kind. specially the perverted one.  P-( 

i still say he is a pussy, i have seen references to the different deaths like ellifain etc, but no if i was in a battel where my friends died i'd be filled with bloodlust, not denial. much like a dwarf would keep fighting to avenge his kin, but not sit there and fight without knowing if they need to be avenged. let's face it book 2 was where it all cuaght up to him and he had to struggle through it, and at (or nearing) teh end he overcame his being a pussy (with help from that chick elf,) and now he has regaine dhimself and is working towards dealing with his conflicts.
