I need to know to those of you who have it, can you create your own character/model? Also your own scene? Like can you draw your own stuff with the mouse?

Yeah you can, just there is alot of copyright and requirements and stuff that someone who uses Gmax would have to explain to you.

It's a bit more complicated.

The default editor is fine.

Man, poor Babygirl. You guys were newbs too a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away(hey AB, Joined: Tue Jun 8th 2004).

Usually gmax is distributed with game packs that commercial developers pay for so that users can use gmax to mod their games, and discreet really only wants you using it for that purpose. If you're not deeply offended by bending the license agreement they probably could care less if you use gmax in free games.

In gmax you can create any kind of 3 dimensional model. You select basic primitives (like cubes, spheres, cylinders, etc.) and use an assortment of tools in gmax to manipulate the objects and old them into a useful model. You use mostly your mouse, and your keyboard to enter in specific coordinate triplets.

Milkshape is quite easy to learn, and very cheap - you'd find a lot of tutorials for it online, and it should handle everything you'll eventually want to do with it.

There are free modelling packages, but really you should go with something you'll be able to get support and help on at any time.

GMAX is by no means a modeller for DBPro - or beginners.

*sigh*
okay despite popular belief IT IS LEGAL TO USE GMAX FOR COMMERCIAL GAMES!!!
i started a thread about this awhile back(april) and we ended up e-mailing the creators and they said it was fine to use models we make in gmax in our "commercial" games
if you doubt me here's the link-
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=29449&b=3

problem is is that you have to go through md3 format which destroys all of your animation and messes up the texture

so if you want you can make a model in gmax texture it and animate it in some other program...

but milkshape is much simpler to work out...

Although the MS Flight exporter:

A) Is extremley difficult to find unless you own MS Flight

B) Only exports static meshes

Go with milkshape, it's cheap and nasty, but does the job.

I know I'm a noob but I knew what gMax was looong before I joined, and I knew what programming was, it's just a bit funny. I know some really sutpid kids who think they could make an U83R L337 MMORPG and even they know what programming is. So I'm sorry, maybe it's cuz I'm in a horrible mood lately.

Very sorry BabyGirl.
