I got a huge problem regarding the cartoon shade command.
When I use this the object turn black, except for a few
polys who are drawn correctly. The basic 3d example is
working fine, so I don't think that it is my gfx card
(GeForce 4 MX420). Any one got a solution to my problem, or
experienced something of that sort, please tell me what I'm
doing wrong.

I have the same problem here... I think you need a .dds file or something. The basic3d example uses one.
when I used the .dds file from the Basic3d example it worked except there where no black borders

Does the MX range support DirectX8.1?

If not then your card doesn't support that feature.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But in practice, there is.
