Hi all,
Damn I've had a lot of hassle with my PC - due to the virus like behaviour of 1 bit of spyware. Every 30 seconds or so, a new popup would appear, this makes coding a nightmare, testing an app then it switches to some webpage selling smilies or something equally stupid.

Anyhoo, Adware Spy and No Adware and Spybot S&D all failed to get rid of it (they could detect it, they even appeared to remove it). In the end I had to reboot in safe mode, then go looking for the hidden .dll's. They show as 314k and will be in the windows system32 folder - they'll be hidden unless you select to show all the files (hidden and protected system). The filenames are sorta random, but look for things like *lui.dll.

Sounds like you dont have a real-time ad blocker - or you dont have XP SP2...

I would recommend Trend Internet Suite - got firewall, very good AV, and a URL filter...

And whats happened to your animated GIF?

I'm using Win2k, and had'nt installed the firewall since I reinstalled a couple of months ago. I use Panda Antivirus/Firewall.

My router apparantly has a firewall too - but it can't be working that well.

I personally recommend Norton Internet Security. I would never go online without it again!

It stops intrusion attacks, spam, pop ups, and it even stips out ALL commercials from websites that you visit. A very good purchase!

The default editor is fine.

Urg... Norton Internet Security is shocking.
Slows boot time, kills system resources ( this is an old PC too ), slows internet connection SEVERELY, stops me from connecting every 2/3 times, and worst of all, unless you PAY, they dont give you the damned definition updates! I mean, what use is it unless you have the latest protection? Peice of c... I'll show YOU! *shakes fist*...

Ok, I'm over it now.

I use ZoneAlarm - Works nicely, always picks up connections, doesn't slow anything down and has a nice locking system

Jess.

download the latest spybot search n destroy, dont rely on an older version to update itself. when u get the newer version u get the tea timer update which stops them before they even get a chance.
If u wanted to remove it easily as noted above get Hijackthis.
Alternatively ditch windows altogether for email and surfing
keep it for gaming etc.. but,
get a mac or use a linux box for the majority of web and email.
stop using IE, theres so many exploits now it aint funny.

If no-one gives your an answer to a question you have asked, consider:- Is your question clear.- Did you ask nicely.- Are you showing any effort to solve the problem yourself

I personally use Zonealarm, AntiVir Personal Edition and AdAware and had no problems since...well very long ago. End best is: all this stuff is free .
