As a minor project I am working on an update system for a string of programs that my friend Shadow Runner and I are going to be working on over the weekend. I plan to host these files on some free webspace so I need to keep them secure, so that only people who should be allowed to update, can.

So in essence I'd like to see if you can break my encrypted file, if you do manage to defeat it you should have a small .exe that simply says "Hello world!", waits for 5 seconds then exits.

Thanks alot

You're along the right likes Phreeky Mikey! The file has indeed been compressed, but renaimg the file from .pak to .exe straight away isn't going to change anything, although you'll obviously need to do that ni order to run the decrypted file.

aw, c'mon people, use your noggins.
EXEs start with MZ. Thus it's not an EXE.
ZIPs start with PK. It is noz a zip.
RARs start with... rar. It's not a Rar file.
I think its a file compressed with Kompressor.

He remembered! At last recognition! Well it's not exactly Kompressor compres but it uses a similar method. On a side note Shadow Runner and I are redoing the compressor later today, so it'll be new and/or improved!.

It's encrypted as well, so even if you decompress the file your only half way there.

Oh, and depending on what version of Kompressor I uploaded this file might not even work with it as I used a slightly different method .

Try to decrypt this file?

attached to this post is a zip file, just extract from the zip 3 files. The first file is encryption.exe.dat, the second is Encryption.exe.manifest, and the third is DBP_NETLIB.dll. You goal is to decrypt the file encryption.exe.dat and when you have you'll have a program that is good for encryption.

P.S. this file was made with the same program that you are decrypting. And the program was created by me.
