I have a whole loada sprites, and I can't get the transparency to show correctly.

1. I am using SET SPRITE image,0,1
2. I've also tried SET SPRITE image,1,1
3. I have saved PNGs with and without transparency
4. I have used both transparent and black (0,0,0) backgrounds
5. The same sprite using a bitmap is transparent, but I need PNGs to get the desired effect.

Any ideas?

Serif PhotoPlus. I did wonder if it might be an issue with the image data.

100% transparent backgrounds are displayed as white, for example.

The other thing I've checked is that I'm setting the display to 32-bit.

Can anyone attach a PNG file that they know works for them, for me to test?

Try Ultimate paint to export your .png's, you can get it here http://www.ultimatepaint.com/download.php and version 2.86 LE is freeware so you don't have to pay. If this doesn't work I guess DBP is doing something dodgy.

EDIT Also in the attachement is a working png file (and some source code to display it), made with Ultimate Paint. The picture has Hello Batvink on it with the middle letters being completely transparent then becoming opaque at the outer letters.

Note: make sure your in 32 bit mode, but I'm sure you already knew that.

enjoy

And attached is my effort for your perusal.

The png is a green ring but the middle of the ring is semi-transparent red.

The proggy bounces a couple hundred of 'em round the screen which shows the lovely effect when they overlap.

Boo!

i am using serif photoplus 9 to export my PNGS, and they work fine. Use the 32-bit option - and dbpro cannot replace the alpha map in any kind of png, so the colorkey/don't draw black pixels doesn't work.

Thanks chaps, it was indeed the application. After trying your images, I reinstalled the app and it fixed it.

Nice use of transparency, Spooky. took me a while to realise what was happening! At first I thought the rings at the back were a different colour

dj, is Photoplus 9 worth the upgrade? I'm on 8, didn't see much advantage in stepping up 1 version this time around.

well photoplus 9 has psd support and the amazin photoshop-like brushes editor. it only cost me £30 so it was worth it to me - and it is nearly on the same playing field as photoshop!
