I've become aware that my parents have installed a keylogger program on this computer to monitor what ever I'm doing, which, can be catastrophic seeing that I chat on AIM alot with my friends and girlfriend.

Isn't it possible to run a program while i'm saying something confidential that clears the entry buffer (the whole keypress log thing) therefor not recording my keystrokes?

Ouch... you must not be a very good son/daughter for your parents to install something like that.

In Windows 2000 there is an 'on-screen keyboard' available in the 'Accessability' area. It lets you click on keys on the screen to type, instead of using the keyboard.
Not sure how it works... it may still simply put the keystrokes into the keyboard buffer but it might be worth a try. If I get the time I might experiment with it and my own keyboard capture routines.

On the contrary no. It's more for my brother. You know how curiousity killed the cat right? lol. I'd just like to jam it while i'm on.

Lol I was just joking.

However you should code your brains out so when your parents go to read what you did on the computer all they see if Darkbasic Syntax. Im sure that would annoy them

I think what he's trying to say is if you code lots in any programming language they probably wont find what you typed to your friends/gf in between. In any case, even though there might be a keylogger, most keyloggers these days also come where every 30 seconds or however amount it was set it'll take a snapshot of the current screen.

Do you know for sure that it is ONLY a keylogger?

I'd also like to add that this topic should probably be moved to the general thread, possibly the general programming thread.. this topic is Darkbasic only.

I've seen the snapshots before, but every 30 seconds??? holy crap... doesn't that take up alot of HD or mem? No matter, all i need is to jam the keylogger. I don't think my parents know the full extent of the software, seeing that I found them in a file way back in the programs folder.

I don't see how programming alot can help you hide the programs workings...

No... I thought this board was for DB program making... isn't that what i'm doing? general thread is for things like "Good vacation spots". lol. Speaking of which i need one.

Push Ctrl-Alt-Delete. Go into processes. The rest should be obious, but if it isn't:

Kill everything except:
Stuff you can't kill.
SVCHOST
explorer

And then go into Control Panel/Admin Tools/Services and disable some of the crap that you don't need.

And here's another way:

Unplug your lan cable and disable lan.
Type what you need to type.
Copy it.
Reconnect all cables.
Go online.
Paste.

(I'm assuming the program is on your parent's computer)

I dont think that's how his program works.. I believe their is a hidden program on his computer which his parents can later access to look at the events that have gone on on it.

In any case, Ilya, the alt control delete method wont work for this as the latest keyloggers and such require a password or other method before shutting down, even if using alt control delete.(task manager)

Remember that you're removing it as a process or service = program just gets ended.

Very interesting Osirus... Control alt delete will not do anything, same with the LAN thing.

If it did record images of your computer every 30 seconds, you would aventually find a huge directory and would know where it keeps stuff.

You leave your computer on overnight for 12 hours.
12*60=720
720*2=1440
1440*200=288000
That would be 288,000k if each image was 200k(288 megabites).
It's not hard to find a directory that big.

Secondly, you could monitor network access when your parents use the keylogger tool, and thus figuring out what it does.

If it was truely a keylogger, you could write a program that buffers 1 gigabyte of data to the buffer. It would be easy to find 1 file that is a gigabyte.

Heh, Install a keylogger of yourself, that way you can check if theres a certain pattern of keys your parents press when they view information or want to gointo the keylogger settings or something. Then you're right

thanks for all your input everyone . My plan is to make a program that writes random letters to the key buffer therefore scrambling (not deleting, that would be more noticible) the whole recording of my keystrokes. If that doesn't work then I'm going to plan B.

... Whats plan be again? hmmm... lol

So am I correct with all this?
Oh and by the way, I don't want to tamper or delete with anything on the computer (the whole keylogger thing). All I want to do is render it useless/scramble it with a program while i'm on it. Thanks guys!

THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION::

Get a copy of Mandrake Linux that boots from CD, and just use that operating system instead
