Hey everyone,

This isn't spam as it relates to any one of us who can't find a good, original .COM name. The company MyDomain, who I've been using as my domain name server for years, is giving out 25 free .INFO names to everyone. Anyways, a lot of good names are still available, and I just picked up 21 of them for myself (lots of future project names and stuff so I don't have to worry about getting them later).

Here's the URL: http://www.mydomain.com/special_freeinfo.php

They require a credit card, but they say they won't charge it. It's needed merely to fight fraud (so you can't sign up twice and get 50 free domain names basically).

Make sure you read the fine print. They do require that you don't modify the registrant details after initial submission until at least January 1st, 2005. This is obvious as well.

Hope this is helpful to some

Awsome!!! Free domains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(But they only last a year . But there's 25 of them so that's 25 years. Why do they have to be time-limited?!?!?)

Oh crap... I don't have a credit card.
Can someone register ilsoft.info for me?
(Do I get name rights?)

The default editor is fine.

Most places only register a domain for a year, then you renew. If you register 25 .INFO names today, in one year they will ask for whatever is their current price to renew (usually between $8-20) for EACH one. If you don't want to renew, then the name goes into the public again.

EDIT:

Might I add that after January 1, 2005, you can transfer the domain to another company if MyDomain's price is too expensive for you.

Alright, I just checked my free .INFOs, and they are set to auto-renew. If you don't want your credit card automatically billed next year (like me), then turn auto-renew off for each domain name!

(And I don't want to be billed)

(And I edited my first post)

The default editor is fine.

The people that created .info domains are giving them away for free so you can see them on the internet more. I would get a couple but I don't have a credit card either.

edit: Jeku, can I use DNS with the .info domains or is it just web fowarding?

Most of the major hosting companies are offering the 25 info domains deal.

I bagged a really good .info name when they ran a 'land rush' on the most popular names. Not even used it yet!

Boo!

They have full DNS support for the .info names. But if you don't host with them, then you can use stealth forwarding (i.e. http://freewebz.org/mysite/)

i think this should be sticked, since you find a lot of users here dont have domain names.

I don't think we need domain names. We need good webspace : stable reliable and cheap. I wouldn't mind paying for such a service, but if I can get it for free, I'll take it. And if I'm really satisfied I will even think about making a donation.
