Can DBC change how transparent an object is? Or does the ghost object on command just set the transparency to just a single level?

It sets it to a single level. However, you can do levels of transparency under certain circumstances. However, you still can't make an object go from completely solid and fade to invisible. You can only make the object go from ghosted and fade to nothing. You do this by turning your ambient light to zero. Now create a light for your world. Fade the ghosted objects using the fade object command. This will make them less and less affected by the light, thus making them fade away to nothingness.
