I got my offical Xbox magazine today and the cover story was...
The First review of Halo 2
Yeah you heard me, also it's about 10 pages, but that's not all, there is also a 5-7 page review of Prince of Persia 2, these are two highlitghts of the issue, Halo 2 is actually better than the first one like many hoped and not just some big letdown, it's the highest scroing Xbox game from Xbox magasine ever! With Pop 2 in 2nd.
I suggest you get the issue if you can.
The cover is black and has the halo 2 logo on it.

I like the U.S version, simple but cool, but I'd love to see the U.K version.

Post it!

PoP: Warrior Within is way too similar to the Sands of Time in my opinion, sure, they've enhanced the combat quite a bit so it's not as repetitive, which was the one downfall of SoT, but that's about all they've done. The graphics haven't been improved that much and he's still got the dagger, there aren't any other new innovations. Quite dissapointing considering I've been a huge PoP fan, right from when the original DOS version was released - it was the first game I ever owned.

*Potential spoiler alert*

The new covenant drones look pretty slick, especially the fact that some of them can fly and snipe.. that's gonna be scary. It's gonna be like multiplayer.. but on single player! *gasps*. I'm highly anticipating the release in 11 days.

Exeat-> Ah, but isn't minor improvements a good thing ? Considering how much sequels just wreck the series, I'm generally happy with small improvements on the last game. It could be better, but hey, better is better than worse!

@merix

Yeah that does get pretty freaky at points. One hint for game play, look out for swords. (i'm not to sure about the story, as it was kinda in a different language )

Halo 2 is instilling more curiosity than, *gasp*, Half-Life 2.

I have them both on preorder, and I will probably never leave my house for a month :p

Well no, because SoT ended just before the gameplay got too repetitive, in fact, the only reason it hadn't become boring earlier is because they quickly mixed up the gameplay by giving us a sword that could automatically kill the enemies. From the looks of it, playing WW will just be like playing SoT except the levels and enemies will look different. I dearly hope I'm wrong.

Just saw a Jak 3 ad on IGN, what are Sony? Crazy? Their releasing Jak 3 on November 9th! Not a smart move if you ask me as Jak 3 hasn't gotten as much attention as the last games int the first place and Halo 2 comes out the same day, idiots!

Jak3 for sony is a good move, especially seeing as half of its players haven't been turned away from purchasing because they've already played it. Plus a few mags have been following it, would be safe to say that it might sell better then Halo2.

Its also been downloaded once for every preorder

Halo2 is my vote for biggest disapointment of the year, nothing really new (but the fanboys scream "Dual Weilding and a Sword!!!,", it really wasn't that good ), thats all it seems to be, a fanboy game. When it comes out for PC, i'll probably buy it, but it is nothing that i'll borrow my friends XBOX for a month for (unlike KOTOR, now that was a good game).

Now Jak3 on the other hand, that looks like a good game. Very innovative, a complete new engine. Massive world from what i saw (hoping its as big as it seems). Lots of RPG qualitys, ect. I serioussly do not doubt its selling power.

And then now we look at what 2 other games come out in November.

Half-Life 2, biggest preorder amount of them all. Getting more rave reviews then Halo2 can dream of, looks good.

Metal Gear Solid 3, Not much on the english review side yet, but thje japanense have been saying its a PS2 game for the ages. Only time will tell on that one.

So in the end, we see Halo2 as only a small bugger, on the rest of the gaming nation, especally one that has just been hit by the storm that is "GTA SA" (which is a great game that i suggest everyone play).

Well, I don't know, Halo is something I always enjoy even if I play it a week straight, while GTA on the other hand, after a few days I need a month long break. Halo 2 already has a great review, the only bad part OXM could think of was:
The end

It got a 9.7 out of 10 and it's the highest review ever from OXM.
I think it will follow thru, especially if you look at the secrets of Halo 2 section in the magazine.
MGS 3 looks great too, but that Hideyo, he's one odd guy...

But thats OXM... Official Xbox Magazine, funded by MS. You think they are even gonna let Halo2 (a system supposed seller) get anything under a 9.5?

I'll tell you what, when they make Master chief walk and run faster, then I shall be a fan boy. The speeds of travel (though there are vehicles, not always the best method when you got this bastard covenent jumping on the back and pounding you with melee, really takes your sheild down) can be frustrating on Halo 2, especially with some of these extremely large maps.

True(about the Hideyo) but OXM doesn't always give Microsoft games high ratings, Sudeki got 6.5, Fable only got a 8.9, and so on... Don't forget Nightcaster, and the NFL Fever ratings that got lower and lower and lower...

OXM has to be, without a doubt, the most biased mag I've ever read. I used to subscribe to that garbage, but only for the demo disc every month

They continuously make reference to Xbox being better than the PC--- what a joke. And Eric T is right--- there's no way they will give Halo2 anything less than a 9.5...

That being said, I still can't wait for it and yes, Halo 2 will sell the pants off of EVERY other game this year except for Half-Life 2.

Eric T: Doom 3 was the biggest disappointment this year so far, so Halo 2 will not be.

He could always do that, you just tap rewind instead of holding it down and it goes into slow motion. And there were boss fights as well, can't you remember having to fight your father and that sourcerer guy at the end?

No, real boss fights where you have to do things that you don't usually do against regular enemies, like hitting this one things achille's heel then jump on his back and keep slashing his head until he shakes you off, you know real boss fights, not enemys that are just harder, there are even health bars for the bosses. But by bullet time it's different then in the last time it's something you use to dodge types of attacks and it's for defensive more than offensive.

OXM, these guys gave "Grabbed by the Ghoulies" a good rating. How much more biased can you be? And IIRC, they also Gave "Drake of the 99 Dragons" a good review.

Sudeki - Just plain bad game, no one gave this one a good review, nor will anyone put it in there "Favorite games of all time" list. And That was a considerably high rating for such Trash.

Fable- That woulda got a 10, if good ol PM woulda stuck to what he said. It was a good game, but, not what was prommised to us. Thus a 8.9 is a bit too nice.

Quote: " Halo 2 will sell the pants off of EVERY other game"

Doubt it... It'll be in the Top 10, but not the top 3. The reason being:
A) It's not multi console.
B) Millions have already gotten it for free, and have been turned away by what appears to be a half ass effort.

After trying it out for even a little while, both me and my "XBOX friend" (the guy who actually owns it, seeing as I refuse to buy one ) withdrew our Pre-order. When we we're talking to the clerk, she said that we weren't the first to do it that week. And when I had to fill out the reason for withdrawl card, I put "Over-rated".

Don't get me wrong, If and when they release a PC version, i will Buy that up, for atleast then i can admire a few "Graphical" Changes. Till then though, its just another First Person Shooter.

Edit: PoP2 looks pretty good, i just hope its a bit longer then PoP:SoT. Took me less then a day to beat it.

I don't call that sprinting, its not for an extended period of time, and it is still slower the even gordan freeman. Sprinting i consider moving at the rate of Unreal Tournament... this maybe 1/2 of its speed was the sprint.

Quote: "alot more to it than just dual weild and swords but your to blind to see it"

Oh wait, I forgot, online on the XBOX, erm a new story (which is the only part i am completely foggy on, i could pick up the jist of things... but I never really paid attention in french class ). the only graphics I we're impressed about, were the graphics in CG. The vehicle system did get a little bit of a rehamping (more or less modifications of old rides), and the banshee is quite a bit easier to control, but in the time I did play, I saw no new vehicles (except for new dropships, that I will admit looked pretty fancy).

@admiral- You kinda sound like a fanboy, just sayin.

I do. (i hate when i can't go around these huge maps fast enough).

New weapons, not too many i saw (well there was a few that these covenent we're firing at me from a cliff, not sure what they we're but they F'n Hurt, sadly couldn't find them.).

Revamped Graphics aren't as noticeable on the XBOX as it would be a PC. Frankly, it looked no better then when i play halo on my PC.

Multiplayer, that seems to be the only thing people can scream about. Didn't get to touch that really, but considering how big the Single Player maps we're... i wouldn't be suprised that its the best part of the game.

Story, that really never intriguied me with Halo. "You start fighting covenent, then you land on halo, invesitgate a little, go unleash the flood, the spend a 2 hour long mission following the damn moniter... and then he tricks you.. ect". Never really sparked on me as a good story. The story of Halo2 though is one thing i do not know, if only i woulda stayed awake during french class.

Quote: "I could go on for ages not to mention all the vehicles have been tweaked to perfection and boost options added."

That one I will admit, the vehicles physics we're dramaticlly fixed. You no longer flip the warthogs if you make a slight turn... they are much more stable. And that damn Banshee can get pretty fast. That i do like... but the rest of the game, generic.

Millions? Are you sure about that? And you can't even take that one online without getting banned, and since multiplayer accounts for about 50% of the game, the taste you had couldn't have been enough to judge the final game.

I doubt you played it that much, judging by your responses to many things (weapons, for example). There are more than "not too many" weapons according to the reviews.

They already know that Halo 2 is going to beat sales records judging by preorders, so it won't be under the top 3 as you suggest :p

Nah, i didn't play it too much... and there is an online "Distro" (came in Compressed file that i had) as they I as they like to call it. So multiplayer is being played (i just never did it, not about to play a illegal game from my freakin connection, maybe try his ).

Played it (single player) for about 3 hours (watched it ge tplayed for about 5 more hours though) total then got rid of it, and i seriouslly didn't notice many new weapons. Plasma seemed to be weakend a bit BTW, but it did look cool (though plasma grendades are still deadly, and sticky ).

Quote: "Millions? Are you sure about that?"

Well maybe 1 million. Off of the torrent site that i got it from (wasn't hard to find, just searched in halo 2 torrent and bam it came up. Quite suprising), there was about 115000 downloads of the torrent. That was about 2 weeks ago.

Edit: I would also like people to remember, that this is just my opinion, and that you should go out and play for yourselfs (when it comes out of course, don't be stupid like be and get a french version).

@Eric T - Bungie said they will not be porting halo 2 to the pc.

The reason they ever brought it out for pc in the first place was to bring up the player database for the game. But now that it's high, they know people have xbox's or will buy xbox's just to play halo 2. The good thing about this for microsoft is they both get sales on halo 2 aswell as their xbox systems.

True, but the only reason they ended up doing it was to bring up their player database.. and it's up now.. 2.3million dollars in presales say it's up

In any case, i believe them this time.. halo 2 will be the last great game for xbox before xbox 2 comes out.

Hey Manticore, you much of a halo fan? Not sure if you've answered that before. I know at bestbuy(polo one) they're having a halo 2 tournament on November 8th at 7:00pm till 11:30pm.

Just giving you the heads up. 1000$ worth of prizes is the grand prize, including an xbox crystal edition, halo 2 limited edition, 500 gift card for bestbuy and a year to xbox live.. and a couple other stuff like copy of fable and crimson skies i believe.

9.8/10
Team Xbox:
9.9/10

More ways to say that it's not just XBM being biased.

Edit:
Game Spot gave the game a 9.4 out of 10
Game Spy has not given it's review yet.
